Jeremiah 23:29 ‘Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?’

Jonathan Edwards was one of America’s greatest revivalists.
On July 8, 1741, he started a sermon that he could not finish.
His sermon titled “Sinners in the Hands of An Angry God?” has become one of the most famous sermons in history.
It was preached to a hardened audience who had rejected revival.
At that time in 1741, revival was sweeping through Churches and bringing many into God’s kingdom. However, a town called Enfield became notorious for resisting the revival.
Though many preachers had come to the town, the people remained cold and spiritually dry. But when Jonathan Edwards came to preach there the story became different.
He was used by God to break the demonic yoke over the town. As he preached the Word with power the hardened hearts became broken.
The verbal imageries created by his sermon terrified people in the audience, who cried for mercy. Such was the impact of his preaching that Edwards was interrupted many times by people crying out, “What shall I do to be saved?”. The weeping became so loud that Edwards could no longer finish his sermon.
That day, the power of God’s Word, broke through the stony hearts and ignited revival fire among the people of Enfield.
Jeremiah 23:29 says ‘Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?’
Indeed God’s Word is fire and hammer that can break through the hardest hearts. God’s Word is able to destroy every spiritual coldness and ignite fresh revival fire in our lives.
As gross moral darkness covers the earth and iniquity abounds in this end times, the Bible predicts that many people’s love for God will wax cold.
Indeed, through daily contact with people, and constant exposure to the sights and sounds of the world, some believers’ fire may gradually begin to wane. It is human nature to stumble sometimes, even fail. However, it is dangerous and risky for a believer to continue in a state of spiritual dryness.
No matter how far we stray, even in the deepest night, if we but step toward Christ, His light will reignite our souls and consume the shadows.
After the crucifixion of Jesus, two of his disciples became downcast and began to walk away, intending to go to another city, Emmaus. But on their way, Jesus met them. As he spoke to them, their hearts were reignited with fire. [Luke 24:32]. They said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”
Indeed the opening of the Scriptures, and hearing from the Lord, will cause our heart to burn with fresh fire and zeal.
God’s Word is the wood that keeps our spiritual fire burning.
Proverbs 26:20 says “Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out:’
With the coming of the Lord so near, let us always ensure there is oil in our vessels and keep our lamps burning bright.
It is the entrance of God’s Word that gives light. His Word is the lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. [Psalm 119]
Today, as we accept the spiritual responsibility of diligent study of the Word, surely, our fire will never go out and our paths will shine more and more unto the perfect day.[proverbs 4:18].
PRAYER: Lord, please help me to accept the spiritual responsibility of diligent study of Your Word. Thank You Lord for helping me to keep my light burning bright as I run the race set before me in Jesus Name.
