Deuteronomy 7:9 ” Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations”
DAILY READING – Mark 13:1-13; 1 Kings 6; Hosea 8
In 1991, Folorunsho Alakija faced an impossible situation. Though a successful fashion designer, she had recently ventured into oil business, only to be met with great frustrations. For five years, she had been struggling unsuccessfully to get an oil exploration license. After many doors had been slammed in her face and it looked like she would never get the license she then decided to turn to Jesus for help.
Though she had been a practicing Muslim from birth, at forty years of age, Folorunsho Alakija surrendered her life to Christ.
She then made a covenant with God, telling Him that if He would help her to succeed, she would serve Him for the rest of her life. After this, things began to dramatically change.
Months later, her company, Famfa Oil, was granted the greatly sought after exploration license. Not only that, she began to see God’s hand in amazing ways.
The oil block she was given by the government was one that nobody wanted, because it was deep offshore. At a depth of 5,000 feet, it would be too expensive to explore and expected to yield little oil. She could have given up, but as she continued to seek God through prayers, a foreign oil company came along to partner with her and carry out the exploration. Surprisingly, against alll expectations, they found oil in large commercial quantities.
The announcement of this major oil find in Alakija’s block attracted the attention of the government who promptly took the greater percentage of the stakes, leaving her with only 10%.
Against the general belief that no one could win a legal battle against the government, Alakija engaged them in a 12 year legal battle. She eventually won and her 60% shareholding was returned back to her.
Her success in oil business made her to become one of the richest women in the world.
Knowing that all her success came from God who has faithfully kept His part of the covenant, today, Alakija strives to keep her own part as she dedicates her life to serving God as an ordained minister of the Gospell and impacting lives through philanthropy.
Indeed Alakija’s story reflects God’s faithfulness to keep covenant when we turn to Him for help.
A sincere covenant with God can lift a person out of any pit to the topmost places in life. It can change anyone’s story and turn around any captivity.
In 2 Chronicles 15, the children of Israel were beset with troubles. But when they entered into a covenant to seek God with all their heart, God turned things around for them and gave them rest round about.
Truly we serve the covenant-keeping God who is faithful to do what He says He will do
Several times in the Scriptures, God entered into covenant with Israel in order to bring them help and deliverance.
Anytime Israel kept their part of the agreement to serve God sincerely, He would always give them the victory over their enemies.
The decision to fully return to God is what engages His miraculous help in our affairs.
The promises of God always come with conditions.
And if we want to see the manifestation of the promise, then we must fulfill our part.
Exodus 23:25–26 says: ‘And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee. There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfill.’
Our part in this covenant is “You shall serve the Lord your God.” Therefore when we fulfill the covenant obligation to serve God, we can expect His promised blessings to come upon us.
Therefore in this season, as we sincerely seek God through obedience, let us expect to see supernatural overflow in our lives.
Every dryness will be converted to fruitfulness and we will prosper even in the desert.
Jeremiah 29:11-13 says that when we seek God with all our heart, He will be found of us and will turn away our captivity.
Therefore as we enter into a fresh covenant to seek God sincerely, He will honor His covenant and indeed turn every captivity in our lives.
Every sickness and weakness will be turned around to health and new strength.
In the place of frustration God will bring forth joy and laughter. We shall dip our feet in oil and truly eat of the fatness of the earth.
PRAYER: Lord, please help me to fulfill the conditions set forth in Your Word for me, so that I can receive the blessings You have promised. I thank You Lord, for speed and progress and supernatural overflow of your blessings in my life in Jesus Name.
