In early 19th-century England, John Cadbury observed the devastating effects of alcohol on families in his community. Taverns were full, homes were broken, and many lives were deteriorating. As a committed Christian, he believed his faith should influence more than his church attendance—it should shape his business decisions.
Rather than merely criticize social decay, he chose to create an alternative. In 1824, he opened a small shop in Birmingham selling cocoa and drinking chocolate as healthier substitutes for alcohol. His enterprise was not merely commercial; it was conviction-driven. Biblical values guided how he treated employees, conducted trade, and structured the company.
Cadbury’s faith informed practical decisions—fair wages, ethical sourcing, and social reform. After decades of building the business on those principles, he handed it over to his sons, who continued in the same spirit. What began as a modest shop eventually grew into one of the world’s most recognized confectionery brands.
The strength of the company was not merely in its product, but in its foundation. The Word of God was not theory to John Cadbury—it shaped his thinking, governed his actions, and influenced his decisions. His faith became practical, visible, and tangible in everyday affairs.
John 1:14 declares that “the Word became flesh.” This means the Word became visible, practical, and manifest in Christ. Likewise, in our lives today, the Word must become visible through how we live and operate as believers.
It is not enough to quote Scripture; we must allow Scripture to guide our choices. The Word becomes real when it influences how we manage money, treat people, handle conflict, pursue opportunities, and respond to pressure. When God’s Word shapes our decisions, it ceases to be theory and becomes lived experience.
True stability and lasting progress come when the Word forms our foundation. When decisions are filtered through Scripture, wisdom replaces impulse, integrity replaces compromise, and faith replaces fear.
Today, as we step into this new month of March, let us resolve to move from hearing the Word to living the Word. Let it affect our business dealings, relationships, priorities, and ambitions. By the power in the Blood of Jesus, this is our season to tangibly experience the manifestation of God’s Word and His promises in every area.
As the Word becomes flesh in our lives, we will behold Christ’s glory and reflect it in our environment. Rooted deeply in Christ, we will rise to unimaginable heights and accomplish great exploits in this new season.
PRAYER:
Father, please let Your Word become real and living in me. Help me not only to read it, but to apply it in every decision and every area of my life. As I root myself deeper in Christ this month, let Your glory be continually revealed through me, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
