Isaiah 45:2 ‘I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:’
DAILY READING;• Revelation 13; Esther 3-4; Psalm 106:1-23
Oswald J. Smith was so sickly as a child that doctors feared he might not reach adulthood. He was absent from school on and off, and eventually missed two entire years of school. But Oswald defeated the odds, and survived. At 16 years he heard an evangelist preach the Gospel and gave his heart to Christ.
Thereafter he desired to become a missionary. When he turned 18, he started attending evening classes at Toronto Bible College, with a longing to be a missionary.
Finally, when the doors opened to serve on the mission field, he applied for an appointment. But when the mission board considered his medical record of reoccurring ailments, they said he would never be suited for the mission field.
Oswald J. Smith struggled with the rejection and disappointment, but he wouldn’t give up. He took up a job selling Bibles door-to-door for the Bible Society. When the Bible Society sent him to Vancouver, he met a Methodist missionary who asked him to be his associate in ministering to the Indians. And so Oswald ended up serving as a missionary among native Indians despite having failed to be appointed formally by the Church to the mission field.
Despite the disappointments he went through, Oswald kept his faith strong and kept giving glory to God. He eventually composed over one thousand hymns and poems in praise to God.
By divine leading, he started a new church in Canada, that sent out more missionaries than any other church at that time. Today, Oswald J Smith is celebrated as an outstanding missionary, author and preacher of his generation. Indeed God transformed his disappointment into a great blessing, and turned his mourning into joy.
If disappointing things happen in your life that you do not immediately understand, just keep the right attitude and count it all joy. When you don’t know what to do, just give God praise.
Sometimes it may seem as if you are in a night season of life, where doors get constantly closed in your face and everything looks dark and hopeless, but there will always be a way out when you turn on the switch of praise.
As you praise God, the stumbling blocks will become stepping stones that will push you further into your destiny.
Praise brings God’s Presence, because God inhabits the praises of His people. And when God is with you, He will always make a way for you where there seems to be no way and go ahead of you to destroy the barriers to your progress.
God said in Isaiah 45:2 ‘I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:’
Truly God is our maker! His Presence turns obstacles to miracles and turns the tides of life’s battles in our favor.
PRAYER: Lord, please strengthen me to persevere in praising You always and to always keep my focus on You. May I never allow setbacks to weigh me down, but rather by Your grace everything will work out together for my good in Jesus Name.
