Leviticus 6:12-13 – “And the fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not be put out: and the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order upon it… The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.”
DAILY READING Acts 20:1-16; Judges 13; Job 41
In Africa, one of the effective and common tactics used when hunting, is the use of fire to smoke out animals. In many African countries, hunting is an important aspect of rural life; and even in modern times, some groups, such as the Bushmen of Southern Africa, depend almost entirely on hunting for essential protein and cash income.
Among the Ashantis living in the forest areas of Ghana, their seasonal group hunting is a highly organised event. As many as 100 people may be involved in the hunting, comprising professional hunters and helpers as well as dogs.
Members of the group are positioned strategically around a patch of grassland known to contain wild animals. The area is then set on fire. As the animals run out to escape the fire, they are killed with cutlasses and clubs. Fire is also used to smoke out rodents such as giant rats from their burrows. As the hunters set fire at the entrance of the animal’s hole, the smoke penetrates the burrow and forces the animal to come out. The hunters, waiting at strategic points around the burrow, kill it as soon as it runs out. Other times, the animal may die in the burrow out of suffocation from the smoke, in which case it is dug out.
We can indeed learn a spiritual lesson from this hunting tactics. The same way these animals flee when fire is applied, that is how evil beasts flee when our body is fired up through prayer. The fire of the Holy Ghost, burning in us through prayer, flushes out every spiritual intruder.
The Bible says The Holy Ghost will thoroughly purge His floor, and burn every chaff with unquenchable fire (Matthew 3:12). Our body is His temple, which He continually cleanses to rid it of every chaff. And just as the fire burns continually in the Jewish temple, the fire of prayer is meant to be burning continually in us.
Leviticus 6:12-13 says, “And the fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not be put out: and the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order upon it… The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.”
Fire is activated in us through laying up the wood of the word, prayer and fasting. And as the fire begins to burn, those ‘kinds’ Jesus said do not go out except through prayer and fasting will begin to flee. Afflictions that refused to budge (such as besetting sins, evil habits, recurring afflictions and diseases) will flee out of their hiding places to be destroyed by the fire.
Indeed, when we are always on fire through prayer, there will be no more room for demonic activities. This is why Jesus said His house shall be called a house of prayer and not a den of thieves (Mark 11:17).
When you saturate your life with prayers, spiritual thieves and robbers of destiny will stay far away from you.. When you make ,your body a firehouse, the enemy will have no hiding place. You will become too hot to handle.
The truth is that in this end-time, there is no alternative to prayer. With the darkness fast encroaching on the earth, we need the fire of the Holy Ghost to preserve us from the evil and keep us passionate towards spiritual things. In Luke 21:36, Jesus, speaking about the end-times, said, ‘pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass.’
Prayer is the breath of our spirit-man. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to pray without ceasing. It is through praying constantly in the Holy Ghost, that we remain spiritually alive and alert. And as the fire burns in us, every hold of sin and darkness is broken. Indeed, through the cleansing fire of the Holy Spirit, we are made holy and purified and ready for the manifestation of God’s glory.
PRAYER: Lord, please grant me the grace to pray without ceasing. May the fire of the Holy Spirit continually burn up every chaff of diseases and spiritual weakness and purify me for the manifestation of Your glory in Jesus’ Name.
