Jonathan Edwards — one of the greatest theologians of the 18th century, lived a life consumed by prayer. Born in 1703, he grew up in a home where prayer was a daily routine. At just 18, after graduating from Yale, he became a pastor. Yet his greatest burden was not preaching sermons — it was to see change, transformation, and spiritual awakening. This hunger drove him to fervent prayers.
He prayed intensely. He fasted deliberately. He studied Scripture relentlessly. His devotion was so radical that many around him misunderstood him. But Heaven responded and in the 1730s and 1740s, a mighty move of the Spirit swept across New England . It was the First Great Awakening. Entire towns turned to God. Churches were packed. Conviction fell like rain. America was changed. And history recorded his name because he devoted himself to passionately serving God and praying with fervency.
If we desire results in 2026, we too must pray until something changes. When Jesus prayed on the mount, radical transformation occurred. Luke 9:29 says, “As He prayed, the fashion of His countenance was altered.”
Prayer alters atmospheres. It alters our countenance, alters our circumstances and alters our destiny .
Nothing changes until men pray. Casual prayer produces casual results. Fervent prayer is what forces seasons to shift.
This new year will not automatically bring change — prayer will drive it.
The altar you build in January will determine the victory you walk in throughout the year. Decide now: prayer will not be an emergency tool — but your daily oxygen. Let this year be marked by divine obsession — rising early, praying long, praying deeply, and refusing to live without the fire of the Holy Spirit..
When such fervent prayers rise, revival is bound to break out and things will shift in our nations. As we serve God passionately this year, certainly the Heavens will open over us and we will experience unprecedented positive changes in every area of our lives.
PRAYER
Lord, thank You for bringing me into this new year. Please Ignite my heart with fresh fire and help me build a strong altar of prayer that will shape my year. As I pray, let my life, family, and destiny be altered for Your glory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
