Christopher Columbus was born into a humble family in Italy and received very little formal education. Yet he developed a deep interest in navigation and exploration. More importantly, Columbus was a man of strong Christian conviction. He believed that God had placed in his heart a mission to explore new lands and open doors for the spread of the Gospel.
In 1492, he set sail across the Atlantic Ocean with a small fleet, searching for a new route to Asia. Week after week passed with no sign of land. The vast ocean stretched endlessly before them. Supplies were limited, and fear began to spread among the crew.
As the days turned into weeks, many of the sailors lost hope. Some believed the journey was a mistake, while others demanded that the ships turn back. Tension grew so intense that mutiny seemed imminent.
Yet Columbus remained steadfast. He believed God was guiding the voyage and refused to abandon the mission. Just when discouragement was reaching its peak and the crew was on the verge of forcefully turning the ship back, land finally appeared on the horizon. On seeing land, the mood on the ship immediately changed, and the crew became overjoyed.
When they arrived at shore, Columbus fell to his knees and gave thanks to God, and the crew followed suit. Their long-awaited breakthrough came at the very moment when giving up seemed easiest.
Life often brings seasons where it seems our expectations, prayers, and dreams are delayed. We may feel as if we have been “sailing at sea” for a long time without seeing the miracle we believe God has promised. During such times, discouragement can be deafening.
However, Hebrews 10:36 reminds us that patience is required after we have done the will of God, because the promise will surely follow. The delay is not evidence that God has forgotten us. Often, it is a season where our faith is being strengthened and our character refined.
The disciples experienced this lesson when Jesus asked Philip how they would feed the multitude. Philip focused on the impossibility of the situation, but Jesus already knew the miracle He was about to perform. In the same way, God already knows how He will bring your breakthrough to pass.
Our responsibility is not to calculate the impossibilities but to remain steadfast in faith. As we continue trusting God, obeying His Word, and walking in His will, we position ourselves to receive the promise.
The vision may seem delayed, but it will surely speak at the appointed time. Hold on to God’s Word. Stay faithful. Keep moving forward. In due season, your miracle will appear on the horizon, the tests will transform into testimonies, and the story will end in praise.
PRAYER:
Lord, please help me not to be discouraged by what I see around me. I trust that You are working all things together for my good, and I shall soon see the manifestation of Your promises in my life, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
