One of the famous pioneer Nazarene missionaries to Africa was Harmon Schmelzenbach. In the 19th century, he established churches in Swaziland, Mozambique, and South Africa.
Even as a young man, Harmon felt deep in his heart that God wanted him to go to Africa. He couldn’t wait to finish college, so he asked the Bible College president to ordain him early so he could follow God’s call right away.
While in Africa, Harmon went through many dangerous situations, but God kept protecting him. One amazing story happened when he was riding his horse through the veld, a wild grassy area. Before starting his trip, he prayed and gave his life to God again, asking for safety. As he rode, he suddenly felt something was wrong. He heard a voice say, “Duck.” He quickly lowered his head. After riding past, he turned around and saw a huge snake on a tree branch right above where he had just passed. If he hadn’t ducked, the snake might have attacked him. That quiet voice had saved his life.
Stories of his adventures in Africa are contained in his book, The Biography of Harmon F. Schmelzenbach.

Every morning, God gives us fresh mercy. His compassion never runs dry. It’s the reason why you keep surviving and still standing. It is the reason unseen battles haven’t taken you out.
God’s grace empowers us to overcome hidden battles and escape evil traps of the wicked. Grace and mercy cause us to live miraculously and set the course for our victorious future.
We can confidently move forward in our calling, knowing that “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our life” (Psalm 23:6).
Even right now, God’s mercy is tracking you down, covering you, rescuing you—even when you don’t realize it.
While the enemy plots in secret, God protects in plain sight. He gives His angels charge over you to keep you in all your ways. He never sleeps or slumbers. You are never alone, never unguarded.
We live in a world where the enemy constantly looks for whom he may devour. As Psalm 10:8 says, “He sits in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent.” Evil hides in the shadows, waiting to strike—but we are not left without defense. The Lord is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Through His death, Christ has brought us under the covenant of divine exemption. He has given us the power to crush and march over the forces of wickedness and conquer every power of the enemy (Luke 10:19).
As we diligently obey God’s Word and bless Him at all times, we will abide under the shadow of the Almighty, where no weapon formed against us shall ever prosper and no plague can come near our dwelling place.
Surely, as we commit to living a life of fervent prayers and prompt obedience to the voice of the Holy Spirit, we will always escape every trap and ambush.

PRAYER:
Lord, I thank You for Your seal of divine protection upon me and my family through Your mercy and grace. Surely, by the power in the Blood of Jesus, no evil shall befall us and no plague can come near us, in Jesus’ Name.
