Charles Parham was an American pastor originally affiliated with the Methodist Church.
He went against the traditional Methodist doctrine by believing in the baptism of the Holy Spirit—marked by speaking in tongues. This belief became the cornerstone of his ministry.
In 1900, Parham founded Bethel Bible School in Topeka, Kansas. During a watch night service on January 1, 1901, a student named Agnes Ozman received the Holy Spirit and began to speak in tongues. That moment is widely seen as the beginning of the Pentecostal movement and sparked a wave of revival.
By 1905, Parham’s ministry had gained national attention. While preaching in Orchard, Texas, there was such a strong move of the Holy Spirit that he felt led to begin revival tours across the country. His meetings drew thousands, with many saved and healed. In each city, local volunteers joined the mission, eager to be part of what God was doing.
But the powerful move of God in his ministry also attracted fierce opposition, including attempts to poison him and his evangelistic team.
Despite these threats and intense persecution, Parham stayed on course. His bold teaching helped raise up leaders like William Seymour, who would lead the Azusa Street Revival. Though controversial, Parham’s influence eventually shaped the global Pentecostal movement.
Charles Parham, who founded the Apostolic Faith Movement, is also regarded as the founder and doctrinal father of the worldwide Pentecostal movement.
On our journey to success, we will often be confronted by the enemies of our progress. But despite their plots, our God is able to disappoint the devices of the crafty so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise (Job 5:12–14).
God is able to hide us from the secret counsel of the wicked and from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity (Psalms 64:2). Through the grace of God, we are fortified against these agents of wickedness and shielded from their evil arrows.
The truth is, in every man’s promised land there will always be giants who try to resist your forward movement. But whenever you are confronted, always remember that the Greater One lives in you. And He who is in you will always be greater than anything in the world fighting against you.
Despite the afflictions and oppressions of the enemy, you are destined for victory and glory. Certainly, in this season, as we grow in our spiritual responsibility, we will receive the power to overcome every resistance to our breaking forth to higher dimensions.
Through the grace of God, we will walk in dominion, rule in the midst of our enemies, and rise to our glorious next levels of destiny.
PRAYER:
Father, I thank You for the grace to always emerge victorious and overcome in every battle against my progress. Certainly, in this season, I have crossed over into a new realm of unstoppable, inexplicable breakthroughs, and my life is going from glory to glory in Jesus’ Name.
