Isaiah 42:9 ‘Everything I prophesied has come true, and now I will prophesy again. I will tell you the future before it happens.”
DAILY READING; • Acts 16:1-15; Judges 2-3; Job 34-
Today, in many Newspapers, magazines and online News outlets are various predictions about 2023.
It is a long-standing tradition among scientists, engineers, industrialists, and other experts in their field, at the end of each year, to make predictions about the next year.
While some of these predictions have proven to be right, many of them usually turn out to be wrong.
History has records of some of these predictions that were dead wrong and demonstrated spectacular misjudgment, despite being made by experts who had vast inside information about their industry.
Bill Gates, co-founder and chairman of Microsoft
said in 1981: “No one will need more than 637KB of memory for a personal computer. 640KB ought to be enough for anybody.”
Darryl Francis Zanuck , legendary American film producer and founder of 20th Century Fox predicted in 1946: “Television won’t be able to hold on to any market it captures after the first six months. People will soon get tired of staring at a plywood box every night.”
Robert Metcalfe, founder of 3Com said in 1995, “I predict the Internet will soon go spectacularly supernova and in 1996 catastrophically collapse.”
In 1936, New York Times predicted “A rocket will never be able to leave the Earth’s atmosphere.”
As we can see, history has proved these forecasts to be totally inaccurate.
While men can make intelligent and calculated predictions, ultimately no man knows exactly what the future holds.
With the rapidly changing scenario in the world today, no expert or analytical data can give a clear prediction for next year.
Only God knows what is ahead.
As we prepare to step into the New Year and wonder what it might have in store for us, we can trust our all-knowing and all-loving God, to be in perfect control.
And even though we might not know what the future holds, we are glad that we serve the God who holds the future.
King David said in Psalm 31:15 “My times are in your hand”.
Likewise we can boldly stand and declare today, ‘O Lord; you are my God; my times are in your hands!’
While no man knows tomorrow, as believers, we have the privilege of receiving divine direction to guide us in the coming year.
As we earnestly seek God, He gives us intimate details about the future as it concerns us, which enables us to avoid pitfalls and succeed in our endeavors.
And one of the ways of receiving clear divine instructions is by spending time in worshipping God.
Isaiah 30:29-30 says ‘Ye shall have a song, as in the night when a holy solemnity is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe to come into the mountain of the Lord, to the mighty One of Israel. And the Lord shall cause his glorious voice to be heard…’
God’s glorious voice is heard when we spend quality time in worshiping Him in spirit and truth. As we hear His glorious voice, we receive clear instructions and directions.
Therefore today, instead of worrying about the future, let us rather worship. In the place of praise we become surrounded by Gods Presence, which will make all the difference for us as we step into the new year.
PRAYER: Lord I know that because You live, I can always face tomorrow. Thank You for the grace to keep praising You in every situation, because I know that indeed all things are working together for my good in Jesus Name.
