Proverbs 13:20 ‘He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
DAILY READING • Luke 6:27-49; Genesis 6:1-7:24; Psalm 3
Park Geun-hye was the first woman to be elected president of South Korea. She was also the first female president popularly elected as head of state in East Asia.
In 2013 and 2014, she ranked 11th on the Forbes list of the world’s 100 most powerful women and the most powerful woman in East Asia.
Yet all these wonderful credentials became marred because of a wrong association she had.
The fall of Park Geun-hye resulted mostly from her relationship with a friend named Choi Soon-sil who was accused of using her closeness to the president to carry out some corrupt practices. Choi was found to have used her presidential connections to corruptly make millions of dollars.
After the scandal blew open, President Park was ousted by parliament and became the country’s first democratically-elected president to be forced from office. In 2018, she was sentenced to 24 years in prison and ordered to pay a whopping $17 million in fines after being convicted of abuse of power amongst other charges.
Proverbs 13:20 says ‘He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. ‘
Who you choose to associate with can have a powerful impact on your destiny.
In the journey of life, we need wisdom to make the right choice of associations because friends can make or mar you. Especially, when the favor of God is upon your life, all sorts of people will desire to come around you. However, it takes wisdom to differentiate the good from the bad. It takes spiritual discernment to know those who are there to help or to harm.”
Your associations determine the level you can rise to in life
Proverbs 27:17 says ‘As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.’
Anyone who is not sharpening you is hampering you. Proverbs 14:7 advises ‘Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.’
Anyone who is not adding to your life is subtracting from it. You can’t hang out with chickens and expect to soar like eagles. To fulfill destiny, you have to become selective in your friendships. Friendship is not by force. Life is too short to waste time hanging with the wrong people. Your destiny is too precious to be subjected to wrong influence.
Today, let us receive divine wisdom from the Spirit of God to make the right choices concerning our associations. By God’s grace we shall only surround ourselves with those ordained to help us become better people and arise to greater heights of destiny.
PRAYER:
Lord, please give me the wisdom to make the right choices of whom I relate with. Please uproot from around me the wrong associations and help me to be continually surrounded by destiny helpers in Jesus’ name.
