Isaiah 8:18 ‘Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.’

Isabella Baumfree was born in 1797 to parents who were black slaves in New York. When she was nine years, she was separated from her parents and sold at an auction for $100.
By age 13, she had been sold two more times and ultimately ended up with a wicked slave master.
At 18 years, she was forced into marrying another slave and bore five children. When the Anti-Slavery Law emancipating slaves was proclaimed, her master promised to grant her freedom on July 4, 1826. But when the date arrived, he refused to keep his word. So Isabella escaped with her little daughter, leaving the other four children behind. She was taken in by a kind-hearted white couple who were Christians..
When her former Master defied the anti-slavery law and illegally sold her five-year-old son into slavery, Isabella filed a lawsuit to get back her son and won the case, regaining custody of her son. She became the first Black woman to sue a white man in a United States court and prevail.
Through the help of the Christian couple who accomodated her, she became a fervent Christian. She later worked as housekeeper for some well-known evangelists. Living among people of faith emboldened Isabella to go forth and do exploits for Christ. In 1843 she changed her name to ‘Sojourner Truth’ and embarked on a journey across America to preach the gospel and speak out against slavery and oppression. Though she never learned to read or write, yet her speeches moved audiences and were published in newspapers. She was invited by President Abraham Lincoln to the White House in October 1864.
From an unknown black slave, Isabella became one of the best known abolitionists and women’s rights advocate in world history.

Indeed through Christ we can do all things. No matter the barriers and limitations on the path of our destiny, through Christ we can break forth and break through to accomplish incredible things for God.
Today, we recognize that the world is passing through difficult times and sometimes it seems as if we are surrounded with insurmountable challenges. However, obstacles are simply the enemy’s ploy to discourage you and cause you to quit moving towards your glorious destiny.
As a child of God, you are born to be a wonder. All you need to do is to be rightly positioned in Christ and obey His Word.
As you diligently and persistently press forward in His high calling, you will be amazed at what God will do with your life.
