Lott Carey was America’s pioneer black missionary to Africa. He was born into slavery, but faith in God’s promises inspired him to soar to greater heights in life.
When he was 24 years old, in 1804, Lott Carey heard the Gospel preached in a Baptist Church and committed his life to Christ.
After joining the Church, he felt called into ministry. Though a stark illiterate, through determination, he learned how to read and write and was able to study the Bible.
As he stepped out in ministry, his preaching not only impacted the black people but also the white people in the region. Lott Carey hungered to take the Gospel to Africa and so formed the African Missionary Society.
He was doing all these while still a slave, but by 1813, he was able to raise enough money to purchase his freedom.
Thereafter, he became a missionary and led the first Baptist missionaries into Africa. He was instrumental in establishing the colony of Liberia and formed a Baptist church in Monrovia, the colony’s capital. His ministry made great impact and he is celebrated today as one of the foremost Black Christian leaders of his time.
Lott Carey’s unwavering trust in God enabled him to rise from the shackles of slavery to become a trailblazer in history.
By redemption, every believer is destined to make global impact and be a pacesetter. Though the beginning may be small, the later end is bound to be great for a covenant child of God. When we understand this, then education, poverty, race or family background can never be a hindrance to us.
According to God’s promises you are destined to be the light of the world, the head and not the tail, above only and never beneath.
However, every promise of Scriptures comes with a condition. A covenant is like a contract. To benefit from it, we need a good understanding of the part we are meant to play. God’s side is always secure because He never breaks covenant. God says in Psalm 89:34 ‘My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips’.
When we apply ourselves to the terms of the covenant, God becomes committed to doing what He has promised to do for us.
To enjoy the blessings of greater open doors, we need to develop a covenant mindset and become determined to always follow God’s commandments. This will require a lifestyle of diligent study of the Word, prayers and constant obedience to the Holy Spirit.
No matter how disheveled things may look right now, as you commit to covenant alignment, you will surely experience a definite turnaround and sudden divine acceleration to greater heights.
PRAYER: Lord, I thank You for the grace and strength to maintain a covenant walk with You so that I can enjoy speedy accomplishments of Your promises this year in Jesus Name.
