Mathew 24: 4-5 ‘And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.”
DAILY READING: 1 Corinthians 13; 2 Kings 7:3-20; Jonah 2
Sundews are plants that feed on insects. They make up one of the largest groups of carnivorous plants. Sundews trap preys in sticky hairs on their leaves. Long tentacles protrude from their leaves, each with a sticky gland at the tip. These droplets look like dew glistening in the sun, thus their name.
The glands produce nectar to attract prey, powerful adhesive to trap it, and enzymes to digest it. Once an insect becomes stuck, nearby tentacles coil around the insect and smother it.
Although its attractive clusters of red, white, and pink blossoms are harmless, the leaves are deadly. Woe to the insect that dares to dance on it. Mosquitoes are abundant in the sundews’ preferred habitat and can make up a significant portion of their diet. Sundews can kill a trapped insect in about 15 minutes, but may digest it over a few weeks.
The shiny moisture on each leaf is sticky and will imprison any bug that touches it. As an insect struggles to free itself, the vibration causes the leaves to close tightly around it. This innocent-looking plant then feeds on its victim.
There are many things that may appear innocent but in reality are quite deadly. This is why we can’t afford to walk by sight, but rather by the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
One of the signs of the end-times is that there’ll be many deceived, as well as many deceivers. Jesus said many deceivers will come in His Name masquerading as genuine believers but deceiving many people.
To escape the many such ‘innocent’ looking traps of the enemy, we need to be guided by the Holy Spirit.
We are living at a time when we really need to be discerning because of the many deceptions. Today, many people are becoming so distracted by worldly affairs that they lose sight that the coming of Christ is very near.
Interestingly, one of the names of the Antichrist is ‘the lawless one’. The fact that we are seeing increasing social unrest and lawlessness in our society is indication that he is already manifesting.
At such a time we must strive not to get carried away by the confusion and mayhem unfolding daily . Our focus should always be on Christ Jesus and His Word.
Our guarantee for safety in these last days is dwelling in the path of light, which is walking in line with God’s Word. The ways of the world are slippery, their boundaries are continually shifting, and you cannot afford to walk on such shifting sands lest you sink. It is only by the help of the Spirit that we can discern rightly. The Word of God is a lamp unto our feet and light unto our path. It is in His light that we can see light. To avoid destruction of these last days we must heed instructions of Scriptures.
A daily quiet time spent in studying the Word and praying, is one way of receiving daily instructions from the Spirit of God. And as we acknowledge Him in all our ways, surely, He will direct our paths away from every deception..
PRAYER:
Lord, please help me to take heed to the instructions of scriptures. Enable me to be totally dependent upon Your guidance so that I can escape the paths of death and destruction and Walk only in the path of Your light in Jesus’ Name.
