Hebrews 10:19-20
Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh,
DAILY READING – 1 Corinthians 14:1-25; 2 Kings 8; Jonah 3
The month of March is the month in which the season of spring starts. After what is often a cold winter, February eventually gives way to March, where the spring season begins. And as the season progresses, new life springs forth from the earth; flowers start to bloom, trees bud, a crisp freshness fills the air.
Originally, in the ancient Roman calendar, March was the beginning of the year. In that calendar, the year started on 1st March and consisted of only 304 days or 10 months. These 304 days were followed by an unnamed and unnumbered winter period.
However this lapses of an unnamed period, made the Roman calendar confusing. In order to clean up this mess, a calendar reform was required. In 45 BC Julius Caesar introduced the Julian calendar. The next year, 46 BC was even more confusing, it became a year with 15 months and 445 days; it has been aptly termed “the last year of confusion”.
Thereafter the Roman king, Numa Pompilius, introduced February and January between December and March, increasing the length of the year to 354 or 355 days. In 450 BC, February was moved to its current position between January and March.
Though a bit confusing, the Roman calendar provided the historical background for the Christian calendar, that we use today.
What is important to note is that March as recorded by the ancient calendar is a month of new beginnings.
When the children of Israel were about to pass over from Egypt and embark on their journey to the promised land, it marked a new beginning. Their passage from the old to the new, was marked by the shedding of blood at the Passover.
In this first day of the month of March, we have come into a new season. And it is by the blood of Jesus that we can gain access into the glorious things God has for us.
When the blood of Jesus was shed at Calvary the veil was torn. Hebrews 10:19-20 states that we, have boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh
By the blood of Jesus, we are no longer strangers to the covenant of promise. We can enter boldly beyond the veil, into the Holies of Holies.
By the blood we have come into new beginnings.
We have been pruned from old things and old ways, so that we can enter into a new season of growth and strength.
Living beyond the veil means living in power. We have come from a low life to a higher life in Christ. It is a supernatural life where we have become a sign and a wonder.
In ancient times in Rome, March was also the time of conquest, when warriors go forth to win battles. With the winter frosts melting and the ground becoming fertile for harvest again, March was historically the perfect month for both farmers to resume farming, and warriors to resume warring.
Incidentally, the U.S Pentagon still seems to agree with this Roman tradition: with the exception of the recent War on Afghanistan, almost all major US-NATO led military operations since the invasion of Vietnam have begun in the month of March. Examples of these are the Vietnam war which started in March 8, 1965, Iraq war which started March 20, 2003, and the war in Libya which started in March 19, 2011; all follow the trend. Indeed March is a month of great victories.
Spiritually for us in this season, March is a month of forward movement. It marks our new season of living beyond the veil. In this new month we are going forward into the new and great things God has ordained for us. By the blood of Jesus, we have crossed into a new terrain. You are arising into the prophesied Eagle’s flight. Perhaps in January and February you were taxing down the runway, but now you have lifted into the air, soaring on the eagle’s flight. Indeed it is a new and great day for you in Jesus Name.
PRAYER: Father, I thank You for the new season You have brought me into. Indeed by Your grace, I am soaring higher into the great things You have ordained for me this year.
in Jesus’ name.
