Romans 2:13

Not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

John G. Lake, was a man greatly used of God in the Pentecostal movement that began in the early 20th century. He was a missionary to South Africa and co-founder of the Apostolic Faith Mission in South Africa. Through his missionary work, Lake played a decisive role in the spread of the Gospel in the Africa continent.

It was during his time in South Africa that a deadly bubonic plague broke out. Many people died from the plague. Yet despite the danger to his health, John G. Lake still went about ministering to the sick and burying the dead.

One day one of the doctors assigned by the government, enquired from John G. Lake what measure he had taken to protect himself from contracting the disease.

Lake answered, “Brother that is the ‘law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.’ I believe that just as long as I keep my soul in contact with the living God so that His Spirit is flowing into my soul and body, that no germ will ever attach itself to me, for the Spirit of God will kill it.”

He then invited the doctors to experiment with him. He asked them to take some foams of living germs of the plague and put on his hand while he kept his hands under the microscope. And as they did so, it was discovered that instead of the germs remaining alive, they all died instantly at coming in contact with his skin.

He then explained to them, that The Spirit of God emanating from his body killed the germs. The doctors were beyond measure amazed!

Indeed John G Lake was a man who operated in the power of God at an amazing level. He literally walked and lived in God’s Presence. Through his ministry, he demonstrated  that it is possible for The Spirit of God to totally take a man over and use  him mightily.to do exploits.

As Christians this is the life we are called to live, a life of demonstration of The Spirit and of power. But we can only manifest such power when we go deeper in seeking God through His Word.

If you take a little sip of alcohol in your house and go out to the street, nobody may know you took a drink except perhaps you told them. But when you sit down with bottles of alcohol and drink as much as you can, when you walk out of your door, your neighbors will not need to be told, they will definitely know something has happened to you. What made the difference? Volume of intake.

Sometimes as believers, we may wonder why we lack impactful lives, why there is no tangible manifestations of God’s power in our lives. But power comes at a price. It is not what you pick on the street. To see God’s power and His glory we must be willing to pay the price of going deeper in the study of God’s Word. The power of God is embedded in His Word. It is through study of The Word that we know God intimately and they that know their God are those that do exploits.
Therefore for a mighty manifestation of The Spirit in your life, you need to begin drinking  enough of the Word.  It is not just enough to hear a little of The Word, faith comes by hearing and hearing of The Word. We must be prepared to hear until the Word dominates us and The Spirit takes us over.  This is where faith erupts in the heart and we begin to do exploits for God. Indeed when you are drunk, your talk and your walk will change. Your life will demonstrate power and you will be a living wonder to those around you.  Just as Dr. Lake’s amazing testimony brought glory to God, so should the happenings in our lives be a continual testimony that we are serving  the miracle God.
PRAYER: Lord, please help me to develop a greater appetite for your Word and your Spirit, so that I can begin to see miracles, signs and wonders in my life. By Your grace may my life continually bring  glory to You in Jesus Name.
