Philippians 4:4-6 ‘Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.’
DAILY READING –Revelation 11; Esther 1; Psalm 105:1-25
The 1960s was a chaotic era in American history. It was a tumultuous decade defined by the Vietnam War, the civil rights movement and the Cold War.
Indeed the 1960s remains the most consequential and controversial decade in America, filled with irresponsible excess, activism, violence and racial tension.
Many people found this period to be very deeply disturbing due to the fear and uncertainty in the atmosphere. At this time, Bill and Gloria Bill Gaither, two of the most prolific and popular Gospel music writers and performers in the world, were also affected by the despair in the atmosphere. In their own lives, 1969 was a particularly bleak period for them because Bill was very sick with a severe case of mononucleosis.
One day, while Gloria was sitting in their living room, she began to sense the agony and fear rising again within her heart. But then, suddenly and quite unexpectedly, God’s Presence surrounded her and she was filled with a sweet, calming peace. At that point, her panic gave way to an assurance that the future would be just fine, because God is in control. And this inspired Gloria to write the song ‘Because He lives.’ This very popular song expressed the hope that was shaped by the resurrection of Jesus. It states in part ‘…Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Because He lives, all fear is gone. Because I know He holds the future, And life is worth the living just because He lives!’
Today, many people are worried about their tomorrow, their finances, medical reports and many other issues.
To have the victory over challenges, we must stop looking at the problems and start looking at God’s promises. Rather than despair, we must maintain our praise because it is what engages God’s Presence and guarantees our victory..
Nehemiah 8:10 says ” ‘Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength’ “.
We must understand that joy produces strength, which explains why our joy is the devil’s primary target. If you lose your joy, you will lose your strength, and lose your battles. But if you refuse to be depressed, then the enemy cannot oppress you.
So be joyful!
In Philippians 4:4 apostle Paul writes, “Rejoice in the Lord always”.
Paul wrote those words when he was in prison with no chance of getting out. For him joy was a decision, not a reaction to circumstances.
Even in the midst of chaos and bleakness in the world, God still reigns supreme and is in perfect control. He is able to handle whatever comes our way and holds our lives and our future in His hands. This is why in all things we give thanks and praise Him regardless of the happenings.
Therefore today let us make the definite decision to always remain joyful and keep praising God. Certainly, our lives and times are in His Hands. And because He lives, we shall indeed live also!
PRAYER: Lord, I thank You for the grace to keep praising You in every situation. I know that because You live, I can always face tomorrow and triumph in every circumstance in Jesus Name.
