Psalm 118:17-18 ‘I shall not die, but live, And declare the works of the LORD…’
DAILY READING • 1 Timothy 4; Isaiah 38-39; Psalm 119:121-144
Pastor Dr. Philip Lyn is the senior pastor of Skyline SIB Church in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. On Monday, 26th of August 2002, during their morning devotion, the Holy Spirit quickened the words of Psalm 118:17 into the heart of Dr. Philip Lyn and his wife. It read: “I shall not die but live and declare the works of the Lord.” (Psalm 118:17)
That day happened to be the day before the 4th birthday of their little daughter Sarah. While attending violin lessons with her brother at the home of their tutor, the woman’s three year old daughter Magdalene and Sarah went outside to play. Sarah climbed up on a stool to play with the ropes on the clothesline. But accidentally the stool she was standing on toppled and her head got caught in a rope which formed a noose around her neck and strangulated her.
Little Magdalene ran inside the house, unable to express herself, began tugging at her mother’s hands to follow her outside. Precious time was lost as her mother shooed her away thinking she was distracting her violin class. However about seven minutes later as Magdalene kept tugging, her mother finally followed her outside and was horrified to see Sarah’s lifeless body dangling on the clothesline.
When brought down, Sarah had no breath, nor pulse, nor heartbeat. She was clinically dead. After many minutes of desperate resuscitation effort, Sarah suddenly began to struggle to breath, but she remained in a coma.
As Sarah was rushed to the hospital, her chances of survival were very bleak. But recalling the Words of Psalm 118:17 given to them in their morning devotion, her parents held on to God’s promises.
In the midst of the desperate situation, Sarah’s mother began worshipping the Lord and felt His overwhelming presence. That night Pastor Philip received a prophetic dream that Sarah woke up from the coma and was counting her fingers. By the next morning that was what happened. Sarah suddenly awoke from her coma and began counting her fingers. That day was her 4th birthday and she was totally healed. Today, twenty years later, Sarah Lyn is a medical student who is gratefully serving the Lord. Her story is documented in the viral youtube video ‘The Miracle of Sarah’.
It is certainly God’s plan for us to live and not die, so we can declare His works in the land of the living. It doesn’t matter how bleak any situation, God’s Word will always prevail.
It is important to have a time of daily fellowship with the Holy Spirit, because that is where He speaks to us and gives us the Word we need for every season.
Whatever you may face, as long as you have received a Word from the Lord, your victory is guaranteed. As you stand strong in faith, giving glory to God and declaring His promises, you will surely overcome.
Jesus paid a high price to make available to us the manifold redemptive values of His Blood, one of which is the divine help of the Spirit.
Whenever the enemy tries to plot evil against us, the Holy Spirit has a way of alerting us and strengthening us to overcome. As we declare the Word of God and plead the Blood of Jesus, the Holy Spirit lifts a standard against every flood coming against us.
Surely in this season we shall overcome in every battle by the power in the Blood.
No matter what comes against us, God has promised in Isaiah 54:17 ‘No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn’.
Today, let us continually praise God for the help of His Spirit, because through Him we are guaranteed deliverance and divine security against the schemes of the enemy.
PRAYER: Lord, I thank You for my victory through the Blood of Jesus. Truly, by the power in the Blood, I shall always overcome every plan of the wicked and live to declare the works of the Lord in the land of the living in Jesus Name
