Psalm 124:6-8

‘Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth. Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth”.
DAILY READING           – 2 Timothy 1; Jeremiah 5-6; Psalm 121
Fowlers are professional bird-catchers. In biblical times, birds of all kinds abounded in Palestine, and the capture of these birds formed the employment of many persons.  In those days, before guns began to be used, fowlers captured birds by trapping them. They would spread a net on the ground and attach it to a trap or snare. The fowler would then sprinkle some corn on the ground near the trap, and when the bird came to eat the corn, the trap would spring and a net would fly over the bird and capture it. To further capture more birds, the fowler would sew a captured bird’s eyelids together and keep it caged. As the bird cried in anguish, the cry would attract large numbers of other birds, who through curiosity would come to investigate. As these birds approached, they too would be snared or killed by the fowler.

Fowlers made their income from these captured birds. Some sold birds to people who wanted them as pets. Others sold them for use as sacrifices, especially doves and pigeons. Still other fowlers sold smaller birds to the poorer classes, who used them for food. In this case, the birds were devoured.

Biblically, the activities of the fowler are likened to the activities of the devil. John 10:10 says his job is to steal, kill and destroy.  Like the fowler, the enemy and his agents, often seek ways to trap and destroy the redeemed.

Hosea 9:8 says “For among my people are found wicked men: they watch, as fowlers lie in wait; they set a trap, they catch men.”

However God promises deliverance to His people.  Psalms 91:2-3 says ‘I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.’

And Psalm 124:7 says  “Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped”.

Indeed, God always makes a way of escape for us. It doesn’t matter how well, the enemy sets his trap, God has a way of escape for every of His children. And one sure escape route is prayer.

In Luke 21:35-36, Jesus said ‘For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass,’

So when we watch and pray, we are able to escape every satanic snare. Therefore in this month of July, as we engage the power of prayer, by God’s grace we shall be escaping every trap of the wicked. It doesn’t how or where they gather, by God’s help, our soul has escaped as a bird out of every snare of the fowler. Indeed every orchestrated move designed to make us fall will surely backfire in Jesus Name.

PRAYER: Lord, Thank You for granting me the grace to continually watch and pray. Indeed by Your grace, I have escaped every trap of the wicked in Jesus Name.

QUOTE

When God places His hand upon a man in life nothing can come against him, this is because the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
