On August 7, 1954, two great runners, Roger Bannister and John Landy, met together for a historic race. The race was to determine which of them was a better runner.
Three months earlier, Roger had made history by becoming the first man to run a mile in less than 4 minutes. But within 2 months, his record was broken by John Landy, so it was decided that the two men had to race against each other.
When the race began, the two runners put in their best, each determined to win. As they moved into the last lap, John Landy was leading, and it appeared certain he would emerge the winner. But as he neared the finish line, he became curious to know Bannister’s position and how much of a gap was between them. In order to look back, he had to slow down a bit. But that was a grave mistake because Bannister, who was right behind, quickly overtook him, crossed the finish line first, and won the race.
Losing this race was devastating for Landy, and in an interview with Time magazine, he said, “If I hadn’t looked back, I would have won!”

Runners on the track have their minds focused on one thing: the finish line. A person who minds the opposition may end up losing their position.

1 Corinthians 9:24–27 tells us that discipline is the key to winning our life’s race. We must stay focused on our goal and not get sidetracked by anyone or anything.

Before us this year, is the goal of breaking forth to global impact and visibility. But to arrive at this destination requires moving forward in faith and not look back inspite of discouragements and disappointments.
In Philippians 3:12-13, Apostle Paul said, “I press on, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.”
To soar to new levels of destiny, you have to develop the ability to ignore distractions and go forward against all odds..
In Hebrews 12:1-2, we are encouraged to lay aside anything that might hinder our spiritual advancement.
Victory will come as we keep our eyes single on God’s word, follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and keep looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
It doesn’t matter how the enemy tries to frustrate your dream; as long as you stay in faith, it is only a matter of time before you break forth to enviable heights and arrive at your destined place of glory and overflowing blessings.

PRAYER: Lord, please grant me the endurance to focus on the race before me. By Your grace, I shall never be derailed from arriving at my glorious destination and fulfilling my divine purpose in Jesus Name.
