Luke 4:18 ‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.’

In 1996, a story was widely reported in many Christian media outlets of how an entire village in Thailand became Christians after a prayer for rain.
Lun Poobuanak was a native missionary that served in a small village in Kalasin Province in northeast Thailand. For a long time, Lun Poobuanak preached the Gospel among the Buddhists and animists in this village, without much result.
Kalasin Province is a rich and fertile agricultural area, however, in 1994, a drought overcame the area and there was a lack of harvest. The situation gradually became desperate.
Though many people in the village had been unwilling to accept the Gospel, as the drought worsened and they ran out of solutions they decided to come to meet the missionary who had been preaching about his miracle-working God.
One Sunday morning, while, Lun Poobuanak was holding a service, the leaders of the village came to the Church with their request. They told Lun Poobuanak that if his God would give them rain that month, all the households in their clan would accept Christ and become Christians.
Lun accepted the challenge. He then rallied together the Christians in the Church and they immediately began to fast and pray asking God for rain. On the fourth day a storm came with such intense rain that filled the rice fields and saved the crops.
This manifestation of God’s power marveled the people and made all the families in the village, to become Christians, as they had promised. It also convinced many other unbelievers in the province to come to Christ.

We are living at a time when many people are facing insurmountable challenges and desperately looking for solution-providers.
As believers, God has raised us for such a time as this to be difference-makers. Through manifesting God’s power of deliverance, we will point men to our Christ.
Christianity is not a mere religion, it is living and walking in the supernatural and positively affecting the lives of men.
Therefore, beyond focusing on our personal needs, this fasting season should also be a time to positively impact people around us. It is time to pray for the sick and minister to the troubled.
The anointing we contact in our time of fasting and praying can be used to address their lingering problems and bring about a positive change.
After Jesus returned from His 4o days fast, He went into the synagogue and announced that He had been anointed ‘to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.’[Luke 4:18].
The anointing is for service. Therefore as we are empowered through waiting upon the Lord this month, let us become channels through which God’s power will flow to touch the world.
It is certainly our time to be game-changers, trail-blazers and solution-bringers in our environment.
This year we shall be distinguished by the anointing. While gross darkness covers the earth, our paths will only keep shinning brighter and brighter. While men say there is a casting down, we will be saying there is a lifting up. While many are suffering breakdowns, it will be our time of breakthroughs and breaking forth on every side.

PRAYER: Lord, please enable me to become a channel for the flow of Your power to my generation. May Your anointing distinguish me throughout this year and beyond in Jesus Name.
