Romans 8:18 “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us;’
DAILY READING; • Acts 24:10-27; Judges 21; Psalm 46
For many atrocities during his leadership of Iraq, Saddam Hussein became targeted by the American military.
After America’s 2003 invasion of Iraq, Hussein totally disappeared from public view. To find him, one of the largest manhunts in history, was launched, codenamed “Operation Red Dawn.” But Hussein was nowhere to be found.
Eric Maddox is the Army interrogator specialist who is credited with pinpointing the location where Hussein was finally found.
Recently, Eric Maddox has written a book titled “Mission: Black List #1: The Inside Story of the Search for Saddam Hussein.”
In this book, Maddox shares the secret of what led him to find Saddam Hussein when all efforts had failed.
He said that Saddam had a special appetite for fish, which proved to be fatal because it led to his capture.
As an investigator, Maddox knew that people could be tracked down through their vices, so he began to look for the vices that Saddam had.
After interrogating more than 300 people he eventually questioned Saddam’s chef, who revealed that Saddam had a special appetite for a grilled fish meal.
Maddox theorized that since people closest to Hussein could not visit the fish market because of fear of arrest, there had to be another way they were getting fish for Saddam.
When he found out that a former associate of Hussein’s had built and stocked a fish pond, Maddox was able to connect all the dots.
After Maddox and the US special ops team located this fish pond, they soon discovered the hideout of Hussein’s bodyguard close by.
The capture of this bodyguard eventually led the special ops team to find Saddam Hussein on 13 December 2003 where he had been hiding in a hole in the ground
It is interesting that Saddam Hussein’s craving for fish was so acute that it had to be satisfied, even in the midst of a massive manhunt for him.
We can learn a spiritual lesson from this.
Failure to control one’s appetite or craving can lead to negative consequences.
Genesis 25:31 tells the story of how Esau’s uncontrolled appetite led him to sell off his birthright.
Biblically, the first-born son’s birthright included a double portion of the paternal inheritance. But Esau traded this blessing for a plate of porridge.
In an uncontrollable feat of hunger, he allowed his stomach to decide his destiny..
If he had taken just a moment to think about the benefits involved, he would never have made the rash decision.of despising his birthright.
In this period of fasting and praying, we are in a season of securing a glorious inheritance from Heaven. We must therefore discipline our flesh and not allow it to hinder us from the great rewards and benefits that awaits us.
By the power in the Blood of Jesus, we receive the grace not to sell off our birthright of glory to uncontrolled appetite.
This year, by God’s grace, our story must change for the better. Enough of stagnancy, afflictions, shame, lack of progress etc. This year, through the Blood of Jesus, we must surely overcome. It is our time to arise and shine and soar to greater heights.
Though fasting may not be easy, let us pay the needed spiritual price now so that we can see the glory we desire.
Romans 8:18 says For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us;’
As we wait upon God, we will receive power and renewed strength to go forth and excel.
Surely, in this season as we pray the required price, we shall see the glory of God manifest like never before in our lives.
PRAYER: Lord, please grant me the grace to always seek Your glory and not the immediate gratification of the flesh. Please help me to seek Your kingdom first so that all things can be added unto me in Jesus Name.
