Captain Tammie Jo Shults built her life on discipline, training, and deep personal faith in God. Before becoming a commercial airline pilot, she served as one of the few female fighter pilots in the U.S. Navy. When she later joined Southwest Airlines, she carried with her a strong spiritual routine. Before flights, she made it a habit to read Scripture, pray over her crew, and commit every journey into God’s hands.
On April 17, 2018, during a routine flight from New York to Dallas, disaster struck. One of the aircraft’s engines exploded midair, sending debris into the plane and filling the cockpit with smoke. The aircraft shook violently, and the situation quickly became life-threatening.
In that terrifying moment, Tammie Jo did not panic. Years of steady faith and devotion had prepared her heart and mind for crisis. While passengers cried and feared the worst, she focused, prayed internally, and worked calmly through emergency procedures. Against overwhelming odds, she stabilized the damaged aircraft and safely landed it in Philadelphia, saving 148 lives.

Faith that stands strong in crisis is built long before the crisis arrives. Proverbs 24:10 reminds us that if we collapse in adversity, it reveals weak spiritual strength. True strength is developed in the quiet place of devotion and prayer.
Prayer is where spiritual strength is formed. Devotion is where faith grows roots deep enough to withstand life’s storms. When we consistently spend time with God, we are not just performing a religious routine—we are building spiritual endurance.
Daily prayer deposits strength into our spirit. Time in the Word sharpens our spiritual vision. Worship softens our hearts toward God. Over time, devotion produces stability that cannot be shaken by sudden adversity.
Life will present unexpected storms—moments when fear, pressure, or uncertainty tries to overwhelm us. In those moments, we do not rise to the level of our emotions; we rise to the level of our spiritual preparation. Those who have built deep prayer lives will stand steady when others panic.
This season, make devotion non-negotiable. Let prayer become your daily strength source. As you deepen your walk with God, you will discover that adversity does not destroy you—it reveals the strength God has built inside you.
When our devotion is deep, our faith will surely stand strong and we will always overcome life’s challenges.

PRAYER
Lord, help me to grow deeper in prayer and devotion to You daily. Build in me a faith that does not collapse under pressure. Strengthen my spirit so that I will stand strong in every season, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
