In America’s history, the only Gospel minister to ever occupy the office of the president was James Garfield.
Though James was born into a Christian family, he lost interest in the things of God when he became a teenager. His desire was to be a sailor. When he was 18 years old, he planned to take a sea trip with some friends. However, just before their departure he fell seriously ill. He was forced to stay at home while his friends left on the journey without him.
At that period a crusade was being organized in their town by a powerful Revivalist.
James attended the meetings, and became so deeply touched that he surrendered his life to Christ.
He took his faith seriously and immediately began to serve God, sharing the Gospel with others. James Garfield’s burning desire to represent God affected his character and how he related with people.
He was determined to seek an education, to enable him serve God better. He went to College, studied law and was admitted to the Ohio Bar Association in 1860. Thereafter, he became an ordained Gospel minister.
During the American Civil War, James Garfield served in the Military and used every opportunity to point the soldiers under him to a personal relationship with Christ.
After the war, he went into politics and was elected to the United States Congress where he quickly became a major player in national politics.
On November 2, 1880, Garfield who was a lay-minister became elected the 20th president of the United States.

Though James Garfield started life as a local boy who only wanted to be a sailor, his encounter with Christ positively altered the course of his life and took him to the highest office in his nation.
Certainly, those that do know their God will do exploits.
Anyone willing to obey God and pay the price of diligence, will surely become outstanding in life .
It doesn’t matter the constraints or challenges, we may face, we can trust God to do exceedingly abundantly above all we could ever think or imagine.
All we need is to maintain a closer walk with God and stay committed to obedience to His Word.
As we remain faithful in serving God, there is coming gradually a tipping point. One touch of God’s favor can tip you into the reward of hundred years of labor.
Truly, God is in the life- changing business. He promises in Zephaniah 3:19 ‘Behold, at that time I will undo all that afflict thee: and I will save her that halteth, and gather her that was driven out; and I will get them praise and fame in every land where they have been put to shame.”
