Psalm 119; 104-105 ‘Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.’
DAILY READING; Mark 8:1-21; 2 Samuel 19; Daniel 12
Shandra Woworuntu was a young Christian girl in Indonesia who wanted to succeed early in life. She was 25 years old when she lost her job as a financial analyst due to economic downturn in her country. Desperate for greener pastures, she began to search internationally for a job. When Shandra found a six-month seasonal job in Chicago’s hotel industry, she was excited and believed it was an open door to a brighter future. However, she made the mistake of not really praying about this ‘open door’.
After paying $3,000 to the job agency recruiters, she boarded a plane and arrived at JFK International Airport in New York. She was eager to head to Chicago and start the job she had been promised. But it all turned out to be a big lie.
The so called job agency recruiters were actually human traffickers. They lured Shandra to a location where her passport was seized and her freedom was taken from her. She was locked up in a brothel and told the new job she was to begin was prostitution.
Shandra was totally in shock and couldn’t believe what was happening. While imprisoned in this horrible place, Shandra, began crying out to God for deliverance.
One day, after praying, Shandra felt divinely led to go to the bathroom, and realized it was possible for her to climb through the window and escape.
Though she was on the second floor, she jumped and landed safely on the street below.
Shandra ran far away from the brothel. Alone on the streets of New York she ended up homeless.
In a park, she met a good Samaritan whom she believed God sent as an angel to rescue her. This man connected her to the police, who worked to bring her exploiters to justice.
In 2009, Shandra was granted permanent residency in the US and became a U.S. citizen. As a survivor of human trafficking Shandra devoted her time to helping other survivors.
On 20 March 2014, Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey appointed Shandra to be a Commission of Human Trafficking in his state. On 16 December 2015, President Obama appointed her as one of 11 members of the U.S. Advisory Council on Human Trafficking.
Today, Shandra Woworuntu is recognized as one of the most influential Asian Americans who are making great impacts globally.
The truth is that some open doors are traps in disguise.
Life is full of ways that seem right at first, but only end up as paths of death. To avoid them we need to be divinely guided and involve God in all our endeavors.
In Genesis 13:10-11, when Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere, and was as beautiful as the garden of Eden, he chose to go there. But unknown to him, death and destruction awaited in the land and Lot ended losing his wife and virtually all he owned.
Truly, not all that glitters is gold, and not all open doors are from God.
We should always make a prayer of inquiry before embracing any opportunity. Today, many people have been trapped by the enemy through the glitter of certain business propositions, marriage proposals, job opportunities, etc.
Especially in this end-times, we are faced with such high level deception that even the elect may be deceived. It is a time when the enemy will manifest ‘lying wonders’ and even appear as an angel of light.
This means we really need to be careful concerning the steps we take and opportunities we accept.
With the gross darkness in the world today, our security lies in walking by the light of God’s Word.
As we acknowledge the Lord in all our ways, He will direct our paths to the open doors He has destined for us..
We must always be conscious that we are in a warfare, with an enemy who is the most subtle of all the beasts and seeks for every opportunity to deceive.
When God wants to give us our Isaac, the enemy will often quickly present an
Ishmael. To make the right choice we must always seek the Lord’s will.
Through His death and resurrection Jesus has paid the price for us to escape deceptive traps and be divinely guided in life. He took the punishment for our going astray and paid the price for all our iniquity
Isaiah 53:6 says ‘All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.’
Because of the price Jesus paid at Calvary, as many as are the sons of God can now be led by the Spirit of God.
As we submit to the leadings of The Spirit, surely, He will deliver us from the pitfalls on life’s pathway and guide us to our beautiful and glorious destiny.
PRAYER: Lord, please enable me by Your grace to always escape every trap of the enemy, as I press forward on this race of destiny, by Your grace I will always emerge victorious in Jesus Name.
