Towards the end of the 19th century, Willis Hotchkiss traveled with two of his friends from America as missionaries to Kenya.
Kenya is a country known for its diverse species of wildlife. One day, in 1898, Willis Hotchkiss decided to go hunting with a native..
On their way, suddenly, they saw, coming on their path, a lioness with her three cubs. Not wanting to face the lioness, known to be very dangerous when protecting her cubs, they started to go back. But to their dismay, they found that two rhinoceroses were coming up behind them. The two men stood still, not knowing which way to go. In that difficult and dangerous position, caught between those vicious beasts, the missionary prayed and asked God to protect them. As they watched, the lioness, which had come quite close, prepared to attack. She bellied down on the earth and made ready to spring on them. But suddenly, her great frame began to tremble as she cowered in fear, as if she was seeing an invisible terror. Then she turned and ran away from them. With the lioness out of their way, the two men quickly moved forward until they had escaped. Missionary Willis Hotchkiss knew God had miraculously delivered them from death and harm.
The Israelites found themselves trapped between Pharaoh’s army and the Red Sea in Exodus 14.
They couldn’t go back, and they couldn’t go forward. The future looked impassible, and the present seemed impossible. But in that position of profound difficulty, that was where God’s power showed up for their deliverance.
Like the Israelites, we can sometimes feel trapped between a rock and a hard place. It might be financial challenges, where your bills outweigh your income, or problems with your health, business, family, relationship, etc., where there seems to be no immediate solution in sight.
However, those places where it feels like our backs are against the wall can become platforms for the display of God’s mighty grace and power. Those times of impossibilities could be times of divine opportunities.
The key to Israel’s deliverance was obeying God’s divine instructions. God told them to “go forward” (Exodus 14:15). As they marched toward the Red Sea, God split a path right through the middle of it.
It is important that we position ourselves to hear from God anytime we come to a difficult crossroads in life’s journey. Divine direction comes easily when we maintain a lifestyle of diligent study of the Scriptures, fervent prayer, and worship.
As we hear and obey God, He creates a path of miracles through that hard situation.
Certainly today, God will calm every raging storm around you, fight your battles, restore you, prosper you, promote you, and cause you to truly break forth on every side .
PRAYER:
Father, today I choose to trust You and hold my peace, knowing that You are indeed able to fight all my battles and give me the victory in Jesus Name.
