1 Thessalonians 5:18, ’In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.’
DAILY READING 1 Corinthians 16; 2 Kings 12-13; Micah 3
In July 2019, an asteroid called 2019 OK, traveling at almost 15 miles a second, came unusually close to impacting Earth. The asteroid passed by about 43,500 miles away — closer to Earth than the moon is. It was one of the closest known approaches of an asteroid to Earth since scientists started closely tracking the movements of objects in space. Remarkably NASA almost didn’t see it coming. In fact they only saw the asteroid for the first time a few days before, and only definitively identified it as an asteroid hours before it passed right by the earth.
This asteroid could have done a lot of damage if it had hit the earth. Astronomer Alan Duffy as Swinburne University told the Sydney Morning-Herald, that the asteroid would have struck Earth with “over 30 times the energy of the atomic blast at Hiroshima”
But thank God it didn’t hit the earth. Even when scientists failed to see the asteroid in time, God was watching over the earth all the while. God is truly in control of the universe. With so many objects flying around in outer space, even scientists admit that it is a miracle that life on our planet has continued without any fatal interruption. Indeed no matter what goes on, God remains in control.
This is why we do not need to fret about unfolding events on the earth, because He that watches over Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. Our primary concern should be ensuring we are always walking close to Him through obedience to His Word. Because under His wings is our greatest refuge. Indeed God is committed to the protection and preservation of those who trust in Him.
In Matthew 10:29-31, Jesus said ‘Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered’
Nothing happens without God’s knowledge, and nothing ever takes Him by surprise. He is in perfect control. He even knows the number of hair on our heads. And we praise Him, knowing He is also in perfect control of our lives.
1 Thessalonians 5:18, says ’In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.’
Indeed when we realize that life on earth is a continual miracle and it is only by The Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed; then we are bound to give God thanks always. We thank Him for the miracle of sleeping and waking up, for the gift of life, for the salvation of our souls, for divine health, for the ability to use every part of our body; for the ability to eat, drink, see, walk, speak, learn and interact with people etc.
To take God for granted is to be grounded. Therefore let us continually praise Him, in all things, knowing that He is in perfect control. And no matter what comes our way, our life is in His hands. And if God has not yet failed in the running of the universe, then we can be assured that He will never fail with running our lives.
PRAYER: Father, I thank You for being in complete control of my life. And I know indeed that no matter what comes upon the earth, You are able to shelter me from all harm. Thank You Lord, for being my refuge and fortress in Jesus Name.
