Oswald Jeffrey Smith was Canada’s most famous pastor in the 20th century. Yet, his success was a result of persistence and refusal to give up in the face of great odds.
Oswald was born a sickly child, his parents and doctors questioned whether he would reach adulthood. He was absent from school on and off, and eventually missed two entire years of school.
At 16 years old, his life changed when he got born again at an evangelistic campaign conducted by the then famed Dr. R. A. Torrey in Massey Hall, Toronto.
Soon after, Oswald felt greatly drawn to the preaching of the Gospel. After his graduation from Bible College, he applied to the Presbyterian missionary Board with the hope to be sent as a missionary to some foreign country.
But his request was turned down by the Board because he did not meet their qualifications. Several other missionary boards turned him down, saying he was too physically frail for the mission field. Though Oswald’s dream seemed shattered and he was full of disappointment, he did not give up.
As he turned to God in prayer, he received a divine idea to build a church which could send out missionaries. In 1928 he founded the People’s Church in Toronto which became Canada’s largest church and was the single largest missionary church in the world for decades, supporting over 400 foreign missionaries. Oswald J. Smith was also an author, songwriter and world-wide evangelist, who impacted many great preachers including Billy Graham to whom he was a mentor.

We must never let people’s opinion or actions determine the outcome of our lives. Someone said life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you take it or react to it. Therefore learn to put disappointing experiences behind you, and forge ahead to become all that God has ordained for you.

What sometimes seems like a disappointment could actually be God positioning you for greater blessings. God superintends our lives so that even setbacks work out for the good of those who trust in Him. No matter how things may initially look, God ‘s grace is able to overturn adversities into your advantage.
When you are a child of God, you can be sure that disappointments will only end up becoming divine appointments for you.
Renewing our minds through God’s Word enables us to trust in Him during tough times and see our situation through the eyes of faith.
Instead of complaining always believe God’s promise that “All things work together for good to those who love God; to them who are called according to His purpose.” The truth is, though we may not always be able to trace the hand of God, we can always trust His heart.
Don’t ever make the critical mistake of thinking that God let you down or didn’t answer your prayer. Rather in all things trust that God’s thoughts towards you are thoughts of peace, never of evil to give you an expected end. God is always good to those that trust in Him and directs their paths (Proverbs 3:5-6)..
As we continue to bless Him at all times, certainly every breakdown shall be converted to our breakthroughs and breaking forth to greater realms.

PRAYER: Lord, please help me to remain ever grateful and thankful in every situation, because I know that You are always faithful and You will surely cause all things to work together for my good in Jesus Name.
