George Washington Carver’s life began in hardship. Born into slavery in the United States, he lost his parents early and spent his childhood moving between homes. Yet even in uncertainty, a divine seed was being planted in his life.
As a young boy seeking education, he walked miles to attend school in Neosho, Missouri. Arriving late one evening, he slept in a barn he saw along the road, uncertain of what the next day would bring. That moment became a turning point. The next morning the owner of the property, Mariah Watkins, discovered him and chose to take him in to live with her.
Mariah was a woman of deep faith. She introduced George to Christ, taught him how to read, and placed a Bible in his hands. More than that, she modeled a life shaped by God’s Word. Her influence left a lasting imprint on him.
From that foundation, George’s life became anchored on God’s Word. He reflected Christ wherever he went..He went on to become a renowned agricultural scientist, developing hundreds of innovations that transformed farming and impacted millions of lives.
Matthew 5:16 reminds us that our light is meant to be seen. However, that light is not self-generated—it is produced by the Word of God working within us. As we immerse ourselves in God’s Word, it transforms our character, renews our thinking, and fills us with divine life that cannot be hidden.
The impact of God’s Word in us is never meant to stop with us; it is designed to flow through us to others. Just as Mariah Watkins’ investment in one young boy produced a global impact, the Word of God in your life can influence destinies far beyond what you can see.
Every believer is called to be a carrier of light in a dark world. Our words, actions, and lifestyle should reflect Christ in such a way that others are drawn to Him. When we live by the Word, we become living testimonies that point people to God.
Today, as we come to the end of the month of March, let us thank God for His many blessings in our lives. Let us also commit to diligent study of His Word so that we will be empowered to illuminate our world and continually reflect God’s glory wherever we go.
PRAYER
Father, I thank You for bringing me to the end of the month of March. Please help me to embrace the spiritual responsibility of prayer and the study of Your Word so that my life will continue to reflect Your glory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
