On September 28, 2018, the Indonesian city of Palu was struck by a devastating 7.5 magnitude earthquake that triggered a massive tsunami, killing thousands. Just minutes before the quake, Captain Icoze Mafella, a Christian pilot for Batik Air, felt an unusual stirring in his spirit. He later said, “The Holy Spirit told me to leave earlier than scheduled.”
Normally, Mafella waited for passengers to finish boarding before starting the engines, but that day he felt a strong urgency to act. He skipped his routine rest and requested permission for immediate takeoff—three minutes ahead of schedule. As his plane lifted into the sky, the ground below began to split violently.
At that very moment, the control tower collapsed, and the runway behind them cracked open, swallowing parts of the airport. Mafella later testified, “If I had waited three more minutes, we would have all died.” That day, 140 passengers were spared because one man listened to the inner prompting of the Holy Spirit. His obedience to divine wisdom became the difference between life and death.
Safety in life is a function of sensitivity to God’s leading. In a world full of unseen dangers and deceptive opportunities, only the Spirit of God can guide us safely through life’s chaos. Every believer has access to divine wisdom through the Holy Spirit. He knows what we do not, sees what we cannot, and warns us of what is yet to come.
Jesus promised in John 16:13, “When He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth.” That truth often includes the wisdom to avoid danger before it happens. Proverbs 3:5–6 teaches us to trust in the Lord rather than depend on logic or schedules. Leaning on human understanding may seem safe, but divine wisdom sees beyond the visible.
Sometimes God’s leading may seem illogical—like leaving early, taking a different route, or delaying a deal—but every act of obedience unlocks divine preservation and blessings. Isaiah 30:21 declares, “Your ears will hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it.’” That is how wisdom guides—through hearing and obeying the voice of the Holy Spirit.
Journeying through these perilous times requires that we pray not only for protection but also for perception. As we hear and obey God’s Word and His Spirit, we will certainly escape every snare of the fowler and soar to our preordained heights of blessing and glory.
PRAYER:
Lord, please give me the grace to prioritize seeking divine guidance from Your Spirit. As I connect to Your divine wisdom, I thank You for delivering me from evil and leading me on the path of breakthroughs and increasing glory, in Jesus’ Name.
