In the 1990s, Richard DeVos was a billionaire businessman and the co-founder of Amway. He was also a man of deep, unwavering Christian faith. Throughout his life, DeVos boldly professed his belief in the power of prayer, the sovereignty of God, and the transforming grace of Jesus Christ. His faith wasn’t a private matter—it was the compass that guided his business, philanthropy, and personal life.
Then came one of the greatest tests of that faith. At age 71, DeVos suffered two massive strokes, leaving his heart functioning at just 10%. Doctors said that without a heart transplant, he had little time left to live. No matching donor could be found in the U.S., and his case was complicated by a rare blood type and an enlarged heart requiring a specific donor match. He traveled to the UK, but still couldn’t find a donor.
As hope faded, DeVos clung to his faith in God’s intervention.
Despite the great odds, he believed God would make a way. Only weeks later, a miracle took place. A young woman with an enlarged heart came for a transplant. Her blood marched Devos’ rare blood type and her enlarged heart fitted the unique size needed by Devos.
The heart transplant was successful. Devos recovered fully, regained his strength and lived an extra 21 years.
Before his death at 92 years old, wherever he went he refused to be introduced by his wealth or achievements but rather chose to present himself as a sinner saved by God’s grace.
At a time when his wealth could not save Devos, it was divine intervention of God’s grace that made the difference. Grace is the divine solution to life’s impossibilities and difficulties. No matter the resources at our disposal, there is a limit to what we can overcome by our own efforts. When we face mountains we cannot climb and rivers we cannot cross, it takes grace to make a way for us.
The word “grace” means “undeserved kindness, mercy, favor, and help when you need it.”
The grace of God is our vital mystery for surviving and thriving on the earth.
Grace makes the difference between life and death, success and failure, growth and redundancy. The place of grace has no substitute in our race in life.
We are all upheld by God’s grace and any day God withdraws His hand we will crash into disgrace. This is why we must continually acknowledge the hand of God in our affairs and praise Him. Our true measure of fulfillment and success in life is according to the level of grace at work in us.
It is therefore necessary that we commit ourselves to seek to know God through study of His Word and prayers so that His grace and peace will be multiplied in our lives. (2 Peter 1:2).
Today, as we commit ourselves to diligently seeking God, certainly we will be delivered by the power in the Blood of Jesus from every battle against our destiny.
Today, through the Blood of Jesus we are exempted from becoming cheap victims of the wicked. As a child of God, no weapon formed against you shall prosper. Certainly, you shall not die but live to declare the works of the Lord in the land of the living. Because you are a child of God, every appointment with death will be disappointed.
God’s unmerited favor and goodness will smoothen your paths and cause you to keep breaking forth to higher grounds and glorious dimensions.
PRAYER: Lord, please grant me the grace to seek deeper knowledge of You through spending more time in Your Word and prayers. I thank You for the Blood of Jesus that is delivering me from every evil plot and filling my life with. multiplied grace and peace in Jesus Name.
