Sarah Walker known as Madam C.J. Walker is listed as America’s first female self-made millionaire in the Guinness Book of World Records. Through God’s grace she arose from the ashes of a difficult background to a place of global prominence.
Sarah was born to parents who were black slaves at a time of deep racism and segregation in America. Unfortunately, her parents died by the time she was age 7, and so she began living with her older sister. Sarah got married at age 14, and gave birth to a daughter. She was widowed just two years later and moved to the town where her older brothers had migrated to work as barbers.
Sarah who had little formal education began working as a washer woman. But her life was positively impacted by a community of Black women at the Church where she worshipped and served in the choir. These women of faith helped to mentor Sarah and encouraged her to have a greater vision of her life. During the 1890s, Sarah developed a scalp ailment treatment and began marketing her hair product. With a vision of starting a haircare empire, Sarah launched a hair care and cosmetics line for black women. Following her marriage to Charles Walker in 1906, Sarah became known as Madam C. J. Walker. Soon she founded her own business, the Madam C.J. Walker Company and traveled throughout America promoting her products. As business boomed, Sarah provided wealth-building opportunities for other black Americans. Today she is celebrated in history not only as America’s first female self-made millionaire, but also as a philanthropist who greatly impacted many lives.
In Isaiah 43:7, God says everyone who is called by His Name, has been created for His glory.
As a child of God, difficulties cannot dim the light and glory God has ordained for you. Stars shine the brightest when the night is darkest. So the greater, your challenges, the more your light should shine. What makes men give up is ordained to push you up. Life tests may seem hard and tough, but rather than obstruct you; they will become platforms to your next level. Too often, we allow the limitations modeled to us by our upbringing and circumstances set the ceiling on how far we can go in life. If you are not careful, you can allow your past to chain down your future.
But Proverbs 4:18 says the path of the just keeps shinning brighter and brighter. Your story is meant to be ‘forward ever and backward never.’ Therefore stop listening to the negative voices in your head that say you are never going to do better in life.
This year, you need to raise the bar of your expectations because there is coming an invasion of glory that will drastically change your story. To see it happen, we must enlarge our vision and stay open to new possibilities. It is time to step out of our safe zone and step into the faith zone!
Where you are is not where you’re supposed to end up. Quit believing the lies that you cannot rise higher or do better. This year, as you keep lighting up your life with knowledge from God’s Word, you will surely end up as an actor on the global stage; you will be a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden!
PRAYER: Lord, I thank You for Your plans to invade my life with Your glory. Please enable me to walk more intimately with You so that I can overcome limitations and soar to the great heights You have ordained for me in Jesus Name.
