Steve and Beth Long were praying for guidance towards adoption when they felt led to adopt a disabled child. Steve traveled to eastern Russia in 1993 and adopted 13-month-old Jessica, who was disabled. The baby had a condition known as fibular hemimelia, which left her without fibulas, ankles, and heels.
In America, at 18 months, Jessica endured surgery to amputate her malformed lower legs below the knees. She was fitted for prosthetic legs, which enabled her to walk. As Jessica grew older, she often felt a lot of anger at being born disabled. But being brought up in a Christian family, she eventually learned to hand over her life to God and trust Him to help her.
God indeed helped Jessica. At age 10, she joined a swim team and started competing. In 2004—just two years later—Jessica was a Paralympic champion. Her first three Paralympic medals came at the tender age of 12 years, at the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens. More gold medals came at the Beijing Paralympics in 2008 and the London Olympics in 2012. Today, Jessica Long is one of the most accomplished swimmers in US history.
From a frustrated young girl living a hard life as an amputee, God marvelously helped Jessica Long to arrive at the world stage and become celebrated in her generation.
The marvelous help of God is the key to fulfilling destiny. The help of God orchestrates divine turnarounds and causes the lines to fall for us in pleasant places.
When you trust in God’s divine help, despite life’s trials and battles, you will never be confounded or ashamed. [Isaiah 50:7]
In the scriptures, Job went through many trials and tribulations, but in the midst of his pain, Job proclaimed, “I know my redeemer lives.” And in the end, God brought full restoration to Job, and he went on to live a blessed, happy life.
We must always trust that God has our best interests at heart. His thoughts towards us are thoughts of peace, never of evil to give us an expected end.
When life’s conditions appear difficult, that is when to look up to God and trust His Word that never fails. In every circumstance, we must refuse to stagger in faith but rather keep giving glory to God.
Every time you praise despite the pain, you’re making preparations for the rain of blessings, favor, supernatural increase and amazing turnarounds.
If today it seems you are in a dry season and things appear not to be working, do not be downcast, rather stand in faith and maintain your praise. As you do, it is only a matter of time before you break forth into greater dimensions of exploits and exceptional accomplishments.
PRAYER: Lord, thank You for enabling me to always stand in faith and keep giving You all the glory. No matter what comes my way, I thank you for the grace to always rise stronger and better in Jesus Name. .
