While growing up, Spud Alford excelled in track, football and baseball. By 1976, he began training for the 1980 Olympics. However, during the tryouts his dreams were shattered when he suffered a knee injury and collapsed before an audience of about 30,000 people.
As if that was not enough, that same year, doctors discovered a cancerous tumor under his right rib cage. While he was being prepared for major surgery, something miraculous happened. An old friend, who was a Christian suddenly showed up one day and said God had sent him to pray for his healing. After the prayers, doctors could no longer find the tumor and Spud was released from the hospital. However, this miracle was not enough to convince Spud to totally surrender his life to Christ. He felt serving God may tamper with his focus of being an Olympic medalist and he soon returned to training for the 1984 Olympics. But his plans only kept facing frustrations. One day he heard the Gospel preached in a way that pricked his heart and he finally stopped running from God and surrendered all to Christ. Eventually, Spud’s Olympic dreams faded away. Then in 1989, he got an idea to develop a board game based on finger football and ‘Zelosport’ was born. Today his company Zelosport has succeeded greatly and has since expanded into soccer, baseball and golf.
Life is full of choices, decisions, and options.
Sometimes, we tend to follow our own ambitions and choices about how our lives ought to go. But leaning on our own understanding can lead to struggles and ‘no catches’.
Peter went out fishing according to his own understanding and toiled all night and caught nothing. But when he allowed Jesus to come on board and tell him what to do, he had a boat-sinking catch.
If you really want to live in overflowing blessings, then invite Christ to lead you. God’s thoughts and ways are far higher than ours. Even when you miss the mark, God is able to create U-turns on the wrong highways of life. He can use divine disruptions to interfere with your own plans in order to do a divine reset and bring you into alignment with His will.
It is God’s desire to lead you to prosper in every aspect of your life. Isaiah 48:17 says ‘Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.’
As humans we are grossly limited in our capacity to find the right paths of life. But Jesus shed His Blood to redeem us from the curse of limitations and usher us into a life of unlimited blessings.
Revelation 5:12 says He is the Lamb that was slain to bring to us power, riches, wisdom, strength, honour, glory, and blessing.
Jesus died that we might have life and have it more abundantly. It therefore makes absolute sense to follow Him so that He can make us. Through Him we can do all things. As we follow His guidance this year, certainly, we will arrive at our own Rehoboth where room will be made for us in the land and we will have open space to prosper! By the Blood of Jesus, the time has come for us to break out of limitations and break forth to overflowing abundance, unrestricted growth and divine expansions.
PRAYER: Lord, please help me to always prioritize Your will above my own choices and desires. As I follow Your plans I thank You for causing my life to overflow with Your supernatural blessings in Jesus Name.
