Galatians 2:20 ‘I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.’

Darryl Strawberry was one of the most electrifying players in Major League Baseball history. He reached the peak of success, winning several awards and was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated seven times. However achieving greatness almost led him to self-destruction.
Darryl had started his sports career with the New York Mets. There, older players introduced the 21-year-old Darryl to cocaine.
From then on, while his career outwardly skyrocketed, he began dying on the inside as he became addicted to drugs.
Becoming rich and famous, he lived a lifestyle of womanizing, drinking and drug addiction. However he remained miserable and there was an emptiness inside of him.
In 1991, he attended a convention by evangelist Morris Cerullo where he gave his life to Christ. But though he got saved, he didn’t submit to spiritual discipline and soon went back to the familiar lifestyle of sin.
Despite more than $30 million in earnings, he came to financial ruin. His life became shaken by drug and alcohol abuse, adultery, imprisonment, and bouts with colon and kidney cancer.
When he had lost virtually everything, and almost lost his life, God made it clear that he needed to repent , live holy and center his life on Christ.
He therefore fully surrendered to Christ and began living to please God. His new commitment brought blessings, healing and positive transformations into his life
He later became a pastor and today spreads the Gospel around the world through his ministry.

In Genesis 17, God made a covenant of circumcision with Abraham. According to this covenant, only those whose flesh had been circumcised among Abraham’s generation, would be accounted as God’s people. Anyone who was not circumcised would be cut off from among God’s people.
In the New Testament, this covenant of circumcision is recognized as the putting off of our old sinful nature and living a new life in Christ.
Colossians 2:11 says “In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:”
As new creatures in Christ, we are expected to crucify the flesh and serve God in spirit and truth.
The flesh is an enemy of our spiritual growth, keeping us bound in sin, and alienates us from an intimate relationship with God.
Just as God told Abraham that anyone whose flesh was not circumcised was not part of His people, Romans 9:8 stresses that point “..They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God”
It is important to realize that after our salvation, we must accept spiritual responsibility to crucify our sinful flesh nature and live a life of faith in Christ (Galatians 2:20).
By living in the spirit, we will be counted among God’s people and access the blessings of redemption such as divine heath, protection, prosperity etc.
To overcome the battle against sin we must commit to a lifestyle of prayers and diligent study of God’s Word.
Psalms 119:11 says “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. “
One of the best things we can do as the year rounds up is to look inward and recognize our areas of struggle with sin and declare “thus far no more”.
It is time to get rid of the little foxes that spoil our Vine and give no more room to the devil in our lives because the cost of sin is too high. Through being cleansed by the Word, we will shine forth as lights in the midst of the crooked and perverse generation in the world.

PRAYER: Lord, I thank You for the grace to live a life that continually glorifies You. Please enable me to always fill my heart with Your Word so that every struggle with sin comes to an end in my life in Jesus Name.
