James Ryle is co-founder of Promise Keepers which is an International Christian organization for men.
James’ life is a powerful testimony of Christ’s redeeming love.
When James was only six years old, his father was sent to prison for armed robbery. Thereafter his mother sent him to an orphan’s home in Dallas.
In that orphanage, he suffered a lot of abuse and cruelty.
At 17 years of age, James left the orphanage and began fending for himself.
One weekend, while driving all night with a friend, James fell asleep at the wheel. The resulting crash instantly killed his friend.
James was arrested and charged with negligent homicide. Desperate to get out of the trouble, he resorted to selling drugs to raise money to hire a lawyer. But things only got worse as he was soon arrested for sales and possession of marijuana and faced the possibility of up to 20 years behind bars. As he sat in the Dallas County Jail awaiting trial, James’ began seeking God for help and decided to turn over his life to Chtist.
The result of this decision was a miraculous change in his case. James was shocked to find his sentence reduced to only two years.
While in the prison James began seeking to know God more and started studying the Bible.
A year into his sentence, James prayed for an early parole. As he opened his Bible, his eyes fell on these words in Luke’s Gospel
“Go home to your friends and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you.’
At that moment, he knew God had answered his prayers.
Miraculously, one week later, he was called out of his cell and put into a pre-release program. Soon after he was released from prison. James embarked on a ministry of telling people what God had done for hin. He was eventually appointed the pastor of Bethel Fellowship Church in Boulder, Colorado.
Several years later he became co-founder of Promise Keepers and also became a best-selling author and public speaker.
In situations that appear insurmountable, when we hand them over to God, He turns obstacles into miracles.
