SEPTEMBER 25 : FRUIT OF PRAISE

Hebrews 13:15

‘By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name’.   DAILY READING    Acts 12; Joshua 15-17; Job 28

Fig trees are often used symbolically in the Scriptures.  In Israel, the fig tree was one of their most important trees. Its fruit was a staple food and was of great importance in their diet. Israeli farmers often planted fig trees in vineyards, the tree adapts to most soils, and its extensive root system enables it to endure the often long, dry climate of the Middle East. But if any fig tree is unfruitful, it would be cut down. Good soil was too scarce to be wasted on unfruitful trees. Especially in the time of Jesus, when fruit trees were taxed, any unproductive tree would also be an undesirable economic burden. Consequently, a poor fig harvest would be seen as a calamity by any farmer.

In Jesus’ illustration of the unproductive fig tree, [Luke 13:6, 7] He spoke of a certain man who had a fig tree in his vineyard. The tree had been unproductive for three years, and the owner was about to have it cut down. But the vinedresser said: “Master, let it alone also this year, until I dig around it and put on manure; and if then it produces fruit in the future, well and good; but if not, you shall cut it down.”

When Jesus gave this illustration, He had already been preaching for three years, endeavoring to cultivate faith among the Jews. However, the week before He died, it became evident that the nation in general had rejected the Messiah.

In another instance  while traveling from Bethany to Jerusalem four days before His death, He saw a fig tree that had abundant leaves but no fruit. Normally the fig tree, unlike other trees,  provides a harvest of early figs in June and a main crop generally from August onward.  The Israelites usually ate the early crop as fresh fruits.

Since the early figs appear along with the leaves, and sometimes even before the leaves develop,  when Jesus approached the fig tree He possibly looked for these early fruits.

The tree’s lack of fruit was unexpected, it showed that it was worthless. [Mark 11:13, 14.]  Jesus cursed the sterile fig tree, and on the following day, the disciples noticed that it had withered. The dried-up tree signified God’s  rejection of those who would  not produce fruits.

Hebrew 6:7-8 says ‘For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:

But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.’.

Hebrews 13:15 says ‘By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.’

The fruit of our lips is praise.

God expects the fruit of praise from us.

Praising God is not an option for the believer, it is a commandment.

God speaking in Malachi 2:2 says ‘And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you. If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings’

Is it any wonder then that Jesus cursed the fig tree? He was trying to symbolize to us the utmost importance of bringing forth fruit to God. Praise is so important.

The Bible also says ‘Every tree that bringeth not good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire.’

We  are created to continually offer up unto God, the fruits of our lips. We are under the bond of the covenant to give thanks continually to God. 2thessalonians 2:13 says ‘But we are bound to give thanks always to God…’ We are bound to do it. It is not an option.

God has planted us on earth for the purpose of receiving the fruit of praise from us. And like every farmer He expects to receive the fruit of what He has planted. Not to Praise God is to deny Him His fruit, but when we praise Him we come under His blessing. As we praise Him, He takes care of us so that we can bring forth more fruit. So choose to be blessed today and everyday by continually offering God quality praise. And when you give God what He desires you can be sure He will give you in return that which you desire.

God is worthy of our praise. When we think of His goodness and all He has done  for us, we can’t but praise Him.

God is the reason why we are still here today. Despite all the plans of the wicked to eliminate us, God’s will over our lives has prevailed. If it had not been for The Lord on our side where would we be? Though things may not be exactly what you want them to be, still realise that indeed God has been faithful. And as we continue to praise Him, He will surely perfect all that concerns us in due season in Jesus name.

PRAYER: Lord, please help me to continually offer to You the fruits of praise, indeed You have been good to me, You have done all things well, and  I bless Your Holy Name forever.. .

SEPTEMBER 24 : YOUR CASE IS DIFFERENT

Mathew 24:7 KJV

‘Nation shall rise against nation and kingdom shall rise against kingdom:

DAILY READING – Acts 11:19-30; Joshua 13-14; Job 27

A doomsday clock hangs in the University of Chicago.

It was set up in 1947, by the group of scientists who produced the first atomic bomb. After the U.S dropped the bomb on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and these scientists saw the devastations of their bomb, it became too much for them to bear. They realized they had developed the most horrific weapon the world had ever seen. And so they set up the doomsday clock as a way of warning humanity of the impending danger of nuclear weapons. According to them each minute the hands of the clock inch closer to midnight, the world has inched closer to Armageddon or total destruction.

Today, this clock is monitored by the bulletin of nuclear scientists, which includes physicists and environmental scientists from around the world, among whom are 15 Nobel laureates. They adjust the clock timing in consultation with the group’s Board of Sponsors. For the last two years, the minute hand of the Doomsday Clock has stayed set at three minutes before midnight. But following hydrogen bomb tests by the US and Russia as tension increases between both countries, in January 2017, the scientists moved the clock hand forward by 30 seconds. It is the closest the clock has come to midnight since 1953 . These scientists believe that man’s time on earth may be winding up fast.

All these, however are only re-echoing what the bible has already prophesied. According to scriptures, part of the signs of the last days is that life on earth will be precarious; nation shall rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom. This is what we see happening now in the world. Every day in the news we see conflicts and unrest arising in different nations. Fears and rumors of wars dominate News headlines. On the global scene, possibility of a nuclear war shadow international discussions. All these confirm the biblical prophecy, that the last days will be like the days of Noah, which were days of violence on the earth. So the increase in violence at this time is unsurprising.

However in the midst of all these, we need to be assured of the covenant of protection we have with God. It is a covenant of exception, which means that what happens to the children of darkness is not permitted to happen to the children of light. There is need for us to understand that our case is different. By covenant, we are exempted from the evil.

In Isaiah 54:17, after letting us know that no weapon formed against us shall prosper, God said it is the heritage of the servants of The Lord. That is to say divine protection is part of benefit package for servants of God. It is our heritage. You cannot serve God and still suffer what unbelievers suffer. While terror visited those in Egypt, those in Goshen enjoyed peace.

The Bible says in Prov. 12;21 ‘there shall no evil happen to the just, but the wicked shall be filled with mischief’

Proverbs 1:33 says ‘But whosoever hearkens unto Me shall dwell safely and shall be quiet from fear of evil.’

What you believe is what you receive. It is unto everyone according to his or her faith. If you hear of people being kidnapped , or being robbed, do not begin to condition your mind that it could also happen to you. No! As a child of God you are under covenant. Not everyone can be a victim. Not everyone can be visited with evil. Some people are untouchable. Always know that your case is different. As a child of God your life cannot be tampered with. God says in Psalm 91 with long life shall He satisfy us. Therefore no devil is permitted to take you out before your time. Even Jesus said in John 10;18, concerning His life ‘No man taketh it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself, I have power to lay it down and I have power to take it again’. That is the pattern He has set for us. No man can take our lives. Jesus died young that we might live long, His blood was shed so that our blood will never be shed, His body was broken so that our body will never be broken. The chastisement for our peace was upon Him. He has paid the full price for our peace therefore affliction cannot arise a second time. Divine protection is a reality. What we need to do is to increase our knowledge of scriptures so as to know the benefits available to us from God and appropriate them by faith. Knowledge is the ticket to freedom. So as you observe the news and witness the prophetic fulfillment of end-time events, let not your heart be troubled. It doesn’t matter what may be going on in the world, what matters is what God has said. And according to scriptures Indeed our case is different.

PRAYER:  Lord please grant me the grace to know that my case is different. By the revelation of The Spirit, through Your Word, help me to understand my covenant rights as Your child. I will always praise You for all your goodness in my life, in Jesus Name.  .

SEPTEMBER 23 : DREAM COME TRUE… .

 Psalms 126:1KJV

When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.   Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.

June 7, 1967, was a very emotional day for Israel. For the first time in 2000 years, Israel had just repossessed Jerusalem. This was during the 1967 Arab/Israeli war, when the Israeli army repulsed Jordanian forces and took over eastern Jerusalem.. For the first troop of Israeli soldiers to break into the ancient city, it was like a dream. Finally, after so many years they had access into Jerusalem again. It was a historical, yet very emotional moment for the Jewish nation as a whole.

Advancing through the Old City toward the Temple Mount and the Western Wall, was very emotional for these soldiers. Every step brought them closer to the long held Jewish dream; to bring Jerusalem’s holiest site under Jewish control again.. There are sound recordings of the scene, as the commander of the brigade, Lt. General Mordechai Gur, finally announces “The Temple Mount is in our hands! I repeat, the Temple Mount is in our hands!” The Shofar was sounded at the Western Wall to signify its liberation. To Israelis and Jews all over the world, this was a joyous and momentous occasion. Many considered it a gift from God. Many of the soldiers clung to the western wall as if their lives depended on it, eyes red with tears. The longing for Jerusalem is a deep yearning that beats within the Jewish heart. This ancient city is the pride of the Jewish nation. David swore ‘may my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth if I forget thee O Jerusalem’. Indeed to repossess Jerusalem was a dream come true for Israel,

Psalms 126:1 says ‘When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing’ Nothing equals the feeling of having God’s promise finally come to pass in your life.

It could be news of your wife giving birth after a long wait, passing a crucial exam, getting a certain contract, being healed of a disease, getting promoted at work etc.. Often at that moment it’s like a dream come true.

It is pictures of such moments that we keep before our eyes, in our walk of faith.  As long as you hold on to these pictures, it is only a matter of time before they manifest. What the enemy tries to do is to discourage you and try to get you to give up too soon. But if you don’t give up you will eventually see the manifestation. The dream of repossessing Jerusalem seemed almost impossible, but the Jews never gave up. In the 1948 war with the Arabs they failed to capture Jerusalem, but that didn’t stop them. They knew from the prophesy of Ezekiel that Jerusalem would be back to the Jews one day. So they kept on believing, kept on reminding God of His promise until it finally came to pass.

In the same way, let us keep pressing in with our desire before God.  Let us not be weary, because there is coming a due season, a reaping season.  What God says He will do, He will surely do. With God nothing shall be impossible. Whatever promise God has made to you, know that it will surely come to pass in its season. God is able to do what He said He will do. He can do exceedingly abundantly above all you could ever ask or think. Keep reminding Him of His promises. Keep speaking words of faith into that situation. Keep praising God for its manifestation. And one day too your dream shall come to pass.

PRAYER: Lord, please help me to wait on You until my due season comes. Help me to align myself with your Word, so that my steps can be ordered to what you have ordained for me in each season. May I never give up too soon, may I follow on until Your promises come to pass in my life in Jesus Name.

SEPTEMBER 22  : HOLD ON TO THE WORD

Hebrew 1;3.

Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power

DAILY READING  Acts 10:34-48; Joshua 9-10; Job 25

The Word of God has power to uphold all things. As long as you are holding on to the Word, it will hold you up. You can liken it to someone holding on to a rubber, in a river, as long as he holds on to the rubber, he will not sink.

In New York in 2013, according to News Reports, a fisherman was on his lobster boat at sea around 3am, as he tried to move a cooler the handle snapped off, and he fell backwards into the sea. He was not wearing a life jacket when he fell, and would have drowned but for his pair of rubber boots. As he floated on the water, he noticed that his calf-length rubber boots kept his feet higher in the water than his head.  So he took off the boots, turned them upside down, filled them with air and placed them under each arm as a flotation device. These pair of rubber boots kept him from sinking, as he floated for 12 hours in the Atlantic ocean, drifting more than 40 miles from his boat.

The Coast Guard crews from across New England and commercial fishing crews,  coordinated a search for him that covered 780 square miles. A Coast Guard helicopter out of Cape Cod finally spotted him floating on the water. He was hoisted up from the ocean to safety. This fisherman, though rattled, was very much alive; quite grateful for the pair of rubber boots that kept him afloat.

When you hold on to the unsinkable, you also become unsinkable. As long as the rubber boots could not sink, this fisherman could not sink. The only possible way  he could have sunk was if he had let go of the rubber boots.

The same way as long as you hold on to The Word of God which never fails you too can never fail. Hebrew 1:3.tells us that God upholds all things by the word of his power. The whole of creation is being held up, by The Word of God. Heaven and earth shall pass away but The Word shall not pass away. The Word of God is infallible, abiding forever.

Manmade ideas, and wisdom will fail and fade, but the counsel from God will always stand the test of time. Proverbs 19;21 tells us that there are many devices, in a man’s heart, but the counsel of The Lord alone shall stand.  So we do not just do things because others are doing it, we do things because God has ordered it. When our endeavors are based upon the revealed Word, it doesn’t matter the economic or social climate in the world, that endeavor will stand.

The Word is the seed, it is the foundation, the root of anything that will last.. Isaiah 40:8 says, ‘The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. Operating by God’s Word revealed to you is walking in covenant with God. And God keeps covenants . Psalm 74:20 says ‘Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty’. It is the covenant, that keeps you shielded from the activities of the wicked. The Word is what keeps the enemy afar from your affairs. The enemy knows that as long as you are connected to the Word, you are connected to God, and if God be for you who can be against you? The Word, is our guarantee for infallibility. It is building upon the rock that   never fails.

Keeping your gaze on the Word is what will keep you from sinking. As long as Peter focused on Jesus who is The Word, he could walk on the water, it was only when he looked away to look at the storm that he began to sink.

You have to learn to ignore the storm and keep your gaze on The Word. All the rage of the enemy is to try to get you to shift your focus.  Since  the enemy is helpless against the result, he tries to thwart the process, but as long as you fasten your gaze on The Word you will never fail. All the noise, all the billow, all the bad news, all the clamor is an attempt to get you to shift. But remain stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. For surely there is an end and your expectations shall not be cut off. So it doesn’t matter, the noise of the enemy, keep looking unto Jesus. Keep holding unto His promises.  keep declaring His revealed Word over your life. The Word you are speaking is holding you up. You don’t have to wonder or ponder how things will turn out for you, just settle on what God has said. God is able to keep His Word and keep His promises to you. God is not man that He should lie, neither the son of man that He should repent, has He said it, He will surely do it. So it doesn’t matter what that situation may look like, align yourself to what the scriptures have said. Hold on to The Word which will never fail. And as long as you hold on to The Word which cannot sink, you too can never sink.

PRAYER: Lord, please  hold me up by Your Word, keep me from the storms and turbulence  of this world . Grant me the grace to keep my gaze upon  Your Word, no matter what things may look like around me, because I know that by Your Word I  will be held up, I will  be above and never sink in Jesus Name.

SEPTEMBER 21 : TRUE LOVE

1 John 4:8-9

‘He that loveth not knoweth not God;  for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him’

 DAILY READING – Acts 10:1-33; Joshua 7-8; Job 24

The world is full of hurting people. There are those who have been so wounded and disenchanted by people that they really don’t want anything to do with humans beings anymore.  Some have even so lost faith in people that they have turned to animals to meet their need for affection.  Imagine someone considering her pet her only true friend in the whole world, to the extent that she would bestow all her inheritance upon an animal. In 2011,  there was the story in the news of how a wealthy widow in Rome, disappointed in her human relations, on her death bed, left an inheritance of $13 million dollars to her cat.  News outlets were agog with the news of  this  94 year old wealthy widow of an Italian property tycoon, who left all her possessions  to a stray cat she had rescued from the streets.

Having no children she left to the cat, an inheritance that included cash, as well as properties in Rome, Milan and land in Calabria. She appointed her nurse as the administrator of the cat’s wealth. The nurse would live with the cat and ensure it had the best of cat comfort.  With that inheritance the cat became the 3rd richest pet in the world. The 2nd richest pet was a chimp named Kalu, whose owner, equally disappointed in humans, left him $80 million dollars inheritance. The top richest is a dog named Gunther IV, who inherited $372 million dollars from his owner an eccentric German countess.

Call these pet owners crazy, if you like, but their actions reflect the emptiness and loneliness in their hearts.

The truth is that people are looking for true love. But true love is hard to find, because people are looking in the wrong places. True Love more than a feeling is a person, and until one encounters Him true love remains elusive. God is love. And only God can truly love us the way we desire to be loved. People suffer because they lack the love of God. No one can truly fill the emptiness in the human heart, except God. Only Him can love us unconditionally, irrevocably, and this He has already proved by dying on Calvary’s tree for us. Greater love hath no man than this that a man laid down His life for His friends.

1 John 4:8-9 says ‘ In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him’

God is love. You cannot truly talk of love outside of God.  And you cannot truly know love without knowing God. The love of God is the foundation, upon which any other love can rest. It is the stability of God’s love that keeps us strong enough to handle the frailty of  human love. No matter how anyone loves us, one day they are bound to disappoint us. If you are looking to a man or woman to love you perfectly, then you are in for heartaches and lots of disappointment. No matter how genuine and sincere someone may be, because of the imperfection of the human nature they are bound to fail  at some point. Only God remains ever faithful and ever unfailing in His love. So let us turn to His love, by seeking a deeper relationship with Him. Only Him can truly and perfectly meet our love need. Only when you truly know God, can you know true love.

PRAYER: Lord, please help me  seek  your love,  I know Your love never fails, Please  help me to seek you above anything else, even as I follow on  to the  great destiny you have for me. …

SEPTEMBER 20 : POWER OF FORGIVENESS

Mark 11:25-26
‘And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any:  that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.   26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses’.

DAILY READING Acts 9:26-43; Joshua 5:2-6:27; Job 23

On April 6, 1994, the president of Rwanda’s plane was shot down over the capital city of Kigali. This assassination of the Hutu president sparked months of massacres of Tutsi tribe members by the Hutus, throughout the country. As friends and neighbors turned against each other, over one million people were killed in the genocide.

At this time, a young girl, Immaculee Ilibagiza was home on Easter break from the National University of Rwanda, where she had been studying. As gangs of Hutus went house to house slaughtering men, women and children, to protect his only daughter, from the marauding gangs high on drugs and liquor,  Ilibagiza’s father sent her to the home of a local pastor, a Hutu man. This pastor took her in and sheltered her, along with  seven other women in a hidden 3-by-4 foot bathroom. For  three months, these women huddled silently, taking turns sitting, eating only when it was safe for food to be delivered, and flushing the toilet only when the toilet in the house’s other bathroom was flushed.

Outside the house genocide raged around them, even as killers searched fruitlessly for her. But even in the midst the horror, Immaculee, a Christian, said she strongly felt God’s Presence. Often, she said, God will reveal things to her, such as the time He told her to have the pastor move a wardrobe in front of the  bathroom’s door to conceal it. Though the pastor hesitated, he later conceded. And not long after that, the  killers came again to search the house. Because of the wardrobe they could not see the bathroom door and so walked past  without noticing  the bathroom.

After hiding in the bathroom for 91 days, she came out of hiding to discover that her parents and 2 brothers had been massacred. The only other survivor was her brother who had been studying in Senegal. Despite her deep hurt and pain, she realized she had to obey God’s command to forgive. In her book ‘left to tell’, she recounts later tracing one of the killers to prison and telling him she forgave him. With that forgiveness she found that she stopped having nightmares about the war.

She later relocated to the U.S where she got married and began a new family. And today she travels the world teaching about the power of forgiveness.

Mark 11:25-26 says ‘And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any:  that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses’.

There is indeed power in forgiveness. When God asks us to forgive, it is actually for our own benefit, because the person who suffers most is the one who does not forgive.

People can do hurtful things, they can betray you, lie against you,  hurt you emotionally even physically, But If you keep holding on to what someone did to you, you allow their evil to live on in your heart, thereby poisoning your system. Medically it has been discovered that unforgiveness is one of the major causes of terminal illness. In fact in medical books unforgiveness is classified as a disease on its own. Doctors say harboring unforgiveness creates a state of chronic anxiety which produces excess adrenaline and cortisol, which hinders the body’s immune system. So carrying unforgiveness is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die. It’s actually you who is hurting. In Mathew 18:35 Jesus said we should forgive from our hearts those who have hurt us.  The truth is that in letting go of those you are holding in your heart, you are actually setting yourself free.
PRAYER: Lord, please help me to be able to let go of hurts and pains, to forgive others just as You have forgiven me. May I never hold unforgiveness or grudges in my heart, grant me the grace to always forgive freely and  love freely in Jesus Name. .

SEPTEMBER 19 : GOD CAN USE ENEMIES TO BLESS.

Psalms 119:71   It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.
DAILY READING   Acts 9:1-25; Joshua 3:1-5:1; Job 22

In 1936 German leader Adolf Hitler preached a flawed doctrine called ‘Aryan Supremacy’ His doctrine claimed Germans were superior beings, while other races were inferior, ‘subhuman’ and should be eliminated. This he would later carry out in his systematic killing of over 6 million Jews, gypsies, blacks, Slavs, communists, etc.

But before then, at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, he wanted to prove his theory to the world by showcasing the superiority of German athletes. As athletes arrived from other nations for the games, one of those representing America was a young black man named Jesse Owens.  Jesse was unnerved by the evident disdain for the black race by the German people. But Jesse determined not to let the hatred for his race put him down, rather he decided to prove Hitler wrong before the whole world. He knew the odds were great, and he went on his knees in prayer to engage the help of God. And God did send help.

As the competition commenced, Jesse shocked spectators with his amazing performance. He broke Olympic records and won four gold medals, more than any other athlete. This made him the most successful athlete at the games. Hitler’s  ‘Aryan Supremacy’  theory was quickly overturned as people saw that a black man of the ‘subhuman’ race had defeated the ‘superior’ Germans. Hitler was so infuriated that he refused to give Jesse the traditional congratulatory handshake. But the German people were won over, and Jesse became a crowd favorite. Hitler’s hatred instead of hindering Jesse had fueled him to become one of the greatest athletes of all times. Indeed God can use your haters to promote you.

In the journey of life, just as God has divine connections lined up, He also has people who will be used to push you. Goliaths are not for your destruction, but for your elevation. Discouragers and haters can stir you up. Those against us perhaps help us sometimes more than our friends.  God used Judas more than any of the other disciples to accomplish the mission of Jesus on earth. Without the betrayal there would have been no  crucifixion or resurrection.  Jesus knew Judas would betray him but he didn’t try to stop it. He knew Judas was playing a vital role. No wonder Jesus called him ‘Friend’ [Matthew 26:50 ].The betrayal was crucial to the salvation plan.

So understand that your haters are serving an important purpose in your destiny. Some of your critics are the reason why you have learned how to pray. They drove you to your knees and kept you praying. We wouldn’t reach our highest potential without oppositions. If God removed some of your critics today you probably would become spiritually lazy. So God allows them sometimes as thorns on your side, to keep you pressing forward. Just as God strategically placed Goliath on David’s path and also used Joseph’s brothers; haters can push you to your throne. Without the naysayers you wouldn’t become all you were created to be. Thank God for your friends but also learn to thank God for your enemies. That’s why Paul tells us in Romans 12:20  ‘if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink’. Why? Because he is helping your destiny. You need to see people that oppose you in a new light. They are there to make you better, not bitter. They are there to press you so that the treasure buried in you can flow out. Perhaps if Hitler had not disdained  the black race, Jesse may not have pushed as hard as he did to win the 4 gold medals, and prove him wrong. So instead of being discouraged by oppositions ask God to give you the needed wisdom to thrive. It is by the wisdom of God that pressures are turned to pleasures. The Holy Spirit as you seek Him, will show you how to maximize the situation. When  you stay in faith, God will turn your stumbling blocks to stepping stones. He will turn your pain into power, and  your mourning into dancing.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to see those that oppose me through the light of your Word. Help me to know that You are using them to move me into my greater destiny. .Grant me  the grace to still love them despite what they may have done, because I know all things are working together for my good in Jesus name. .

SEPTEMBER 18 : BE BATTLE READY

Luke 22:46

And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

It is probably the most famous surprise attack in history. On December 7, 1941, without warning,  Japanese planes  began attacking  the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Territory.  Men aboard U.S. ships awoke to the sounds of alarms, bombs exploding, and gunfire. Bleary-eyed men, waking out of sleep,  jumped off their bunks, dressing  in a hurry  as they ran to General Quarters stations.

The U.S Navy had been caught completely off guard. They were not  at all prepared for this battle.  In fact their ammunition stores  were  still locked, guns unmanned,  aircraft parked  on the ground, wingtip to wingtip.

As Japanese airplanes pounded the base, American military, quickly recovering responded effectively with what weapon they could. But the Japanese  having  the element of surprise on their side, wielded the upper hand. The  U.S Naval Commander-in-Chief at the base , hurriedly dispatched to all major navy commands and fleet units, the now famous  message “Air raid Pearl Harbor. This is not drill”. However help could not come in time until the attack was over.

In less than three hours the Japanese had accomplished their mission and departed, leaving behind devastation.  The bombing killed more than 2,300 Americans. It completely destroyed their battleships, sinking a total of twelve ships and damaging  nine others. 160 aircraft were destroyed and 150 others damaged.

American radio stations interrupted regular broadcasts to make the tragic announcement. News of the attack took the country by surprise.  The next day the American President made the official announcement; The U.S. had declared war on Japan.  This would be America’s entrance into world war 2, where eventually along with its other allies, they would win the war.

The battle of pearl harbor in many ways resembles the battles of life we sometimes face. Often times these battles come suddenly without warning. It could start with a phone call, a knock at the door, a routine medical test, a message in your mail; suddenly  everything seems to  go haywire.

Ephesians 6:13  says  ‘Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.’

This is talking about the day of battle.  There is no one on earth who does not face battles. It is part of life. To survive  and thrive in that day, you must live ready.  At the alarm of war , there may be no time for preparation.  It is the reserve of power you  already have that will pull you through.  You must be ready long before the fight. That is the way to be victorious.  And this reserve of power is built through maintaining a fervent altar of prayer. Jesus  asked us to rise and pray lest we enter into temptation.  A lifestyle of daily fellowship with God, will ensure you don’t fall in the day of temptation. Daily fellowship with God, is daily building up your spiritual muscles. When you Study the bible, fast and pray, what you are doing is building up your reserve of strength.  A day will come when you will need it. You may not know the day of the fight, but when you live ready  you can be sure of victory.

Another crucial lesson we can learn is to heed spiritual warnings.  The disaster at Pearl Harbor is seen as the single worst intelligence failure in U.S. history, because, amazingly, the U.S navy ignored the many signs that could have alerted them of an impending attack. For instance, that very morning, an American battleship , the USS Ward, located an unidentified submarine lurking at the harbor’s mouth. American radar operators even detected the Japanese warplanes as they approached Pearl from the north. Yet all these  warnings went unheeded.

Spiritually, one of the strong signs of an impending attack  is if our fire and fervency seems to be going down. Low fire is indication that we are low on oil and so should refill. The enemy strikes most when you are spiritually weak. It is while men slept or were spiritually weak, that the enemy sowed tares. But when we watch and pray the thief is unable to break in to steal. We must keep our loins girded and our lights burning. The 5 foolish virgins  began to run helter skelter at midnight  because they had no reserve of oil. To avoid panicking and being caught off guard, keep oil always reserved in your vessel.

The ability to stand strong  in faith, declaring  God’s Word without shifting , is our  guarantee of victory. Faith is the victory that overcomes the world. We must therefore,  Spend enough time in The Word digging a deep foundation so that no matter the storm or wind that comes,  our house will never fall.

PRAYER: Lord, please help me to always maintain a lifestyle of spiritual fervency, help me to live ready, may my fire never go down or go  out,  and may I always be prepared to react by faith to any challenge that comes my way. By your grace, grant me victory in every battle in Jesus Name.  . .

SEPTEMBER 17 : LIVE IN PRAISE

Psalm 114:7

What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest?  thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back? Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs? Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob.

DAILY READING     – Acts 8:1b-25; Deuteronomy 33-34; Job 20

Imagine having  an invisible energy shield that protects you wherever you go. Having such a shield means you don’t ever have to worry about  attacks. All you need to do is to simply raise a hand and your energy shield comes up to protect you from any attack. Sounds really wonderful, doesn’t it?

Well, scientists are seriously involved in ongoing research  to produce such an energy  field. The European Space Radiation Superconducting Shield (SR2S) project hopes to create such a force field. Their initial focus is to protect astronauts from radiation during  space missions because risk of radiation has currently become a major obstacle to deep-space exploration.

The SR2S force field will be modeled after the earth’s magnetosphere that protects the earth from solar radiations. Though the Sun is an essential element of life on Earth, however, not all the rays of the Sun are useful. The Sun releases enormous amounts of energy and material which sends radioactive particles into space. These are blasted out from the Sun in a steady wind that travels at 450 km per second. These radiations could kill any living being in a very short period of time. But the earth’s magnetosphere, as an invisible force field surrounding the earth, protects us from these radiations. This it does by channeling away the solar wind, so that it doesn’t impact the earth.

Scientist are therefore exploring the possibility of duplicating  this process, as they use a similar approach in the SR2S technology aimed at creating a magnetic field 3000 times stronger than the one that protects the earth. It will be a 10 meter (30 foot) cosmic ray deflecting force field, around astronauts and their spacecraft, that protects them from radiations.

This concept already has been a staple of many science-fiction works. In many sci-fi books and movies we often see portrayed such a force field, or defence shield of energy, that protects a person from attacks or intrusions.

It is however interesting to note that God  who created the magnetosphere to protect the earth, has also provided for His children a spiritual force field to shield and protect us from harm. God has made possible for us, an environment where we can dwell and never  have to worry about attacks. God’s Presence is this environment.  Psalm 31:20 says ‘Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.’

When we dwell in God’s presence we are divinely protected from every evil.

Psalms 91:1-4 says ‘He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.’

All these scriptures assure us that God’s Presence is a shield of protection for us. When God’s Presence surrounds us, evil loses every access to us. And we engage God’s Presence through praise.

Psalm.32:7 says ‘Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance.’ Surrounding ourselves with songs of deliverance keeps us hidden in God’s Presence. Heaven is a place where praise goes on nonstop, therefore God’s Presence is maintained continually there. Similarly when we surround ourselves with nonstop praise on earth we also reproduce a Heavenly atmosphere where God abides continually. And we are told in the book of revelation that in heaven no place was found for the devil.  Therefore you can keep the devil permanently out of your environment through  engaging praise. God  inhabits the praises of His people. When we dwell in praise, we dwell in God, and it is an environment of total protection.

PRAYER: Lord, please grant me the grace to praise You continually, so that I can always be surrounded by Your Presence as a shield against every force of darkness. Let the flow of your praise never cease from my lips in Jesus Name. .

SEPTEMBER 16 : GOD IS FAITHFUL

Isaiah 59: 19  KJV
“So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him”

.DAILY READING   Acts 7:23-8:1a; Deuteronomy 31-32; Job 19
In the recent devastation of  hurricane Harvey,  part of the worry for engineers in Houston Texas, was the possible collapse of a pair of 70 year old dams.

Floods are usually controlled by redirecting excess water to purpose-built canals or floodways, which in turn divert the water to temporary holding ponds or dams. Examples of such flood control channel is the Red River Floodway that protects the City of Winnipeg in Canada.

In downtown Houston two dams, the Addicks and Barker dams  have protected the region from flooding for 70 years. But during  hurricane Harvey, after one of the heaviest downpours in U.S. history, both reservoirs’ water levels rose to record highs.  And after five consecutive days of  such rain the dams began overflowing, adding to the rising floodwaters that had  virtually crippled the city.

To avert an impending crisis, in an unprecedented move, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began releasing water from these two overfilled reservoirs in west Houston. The release of the water meant that some streets were flooded, and some homes inundated with water for weeks. However the release was necessary, officials said, to ease the strain on the dams and avoid their total collapse.

Dams are human standards raised against floods, but like other manmade structures when faced with something beyond its capacity, they tend to weaken and can even collapse.

But unlike these human structures,  there is a standard The Holy Spirit raises against spiritual floods of life. It is an infallible structure. .

Isaiah 59 lets us know that when the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of God will raise a standard against him. No matter the velocity and ferocity of the flood water, it will never overflow or overpower the standard raised against it by The Spirit.

Daily the enemy attacks with floods of problems and troubles. His intention is to get your house to fall.  In Mathew 7, Jesus told us how the flood , wind, storm and the rain beat against the house that was built on the rock, but that house did not fall because it was founded upon the rock. That Rock is Christ. When our hope is built on nothing else but Christ and His Word, our house will never fall.

When the flood of trials and temptations arise, The Holy Spirit raises a restraining wall against it. This wall is the scriptures built up in your heart. If you have taken time to meditate on The Word, you will find that when troubles suddenly arise, The Word girds your mind. Your faith will be strong. As you hold on to The Word of God, floods will never overflow you.

In Isaiah 43, God promises that even when you go through the waters, the waters will never overflow you.  He will be with you.  He will never leave you nor forsake you.

God is committed to our deliverance. Understand that The Holy Spirit is a fighter. He will raise a shield of protection around the believer against the arrows of the wicked. He was the cloud that came between Israel and the army of pharaoh. While He gave light to Israel He gave darkness to pharaoh and his army. The same way He will turn the light into darkness for your enemies. He will fight against the plans of the wicked concerning you. .

The Holy Spirit is the seal that protects the believer. Just as a manufacturer places a seal over his product to shield and protect it, so God has placed the seal of The Spirit around the believer to shield us from the evil in the world. This shield does not allow any flood to touch you. This is why when you carry The Spirit you don’t have to fear because you are under divine cover. It is an impenetrable, unbreakable threefold shield, because your life is hid in Christ and Christ is hid in God.  So as you go about today, take time to pray in the Holy Ghost to activate this divine shield.  Under divine cover, you become truly untouchable.
PRAYER: Lord, Please grant me the grace to be continually filled with Your Word and Your Spirit so that I can remain under divine cover, where I become untouchable to every flood of the enemy. Thank You Lord  for surrounding always by Your Spirit, in Jesus Name. .
