Psalms 11:3 ‘If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?
DAILY READING; 1 Peter 4; Jeremiah 37-38; Psalm 137
After the Japanese earthquake in 1995, which killed about 6,000 people and injured 26,000, Japan put enormous resources into new research on protecting structures against earthquakes and tsunamis.
Japan has spent billions of dollars developing the most advanced technology, that are now being massively used in most of its constructions.
Some of these are buildings that sit on a foundation fitted with shock-absorbing devices that greatly prevent collapse. Hidden inside the skeletons of high-rise towers are extra steel bracing, giant rubber pads and embedded hydraulic shock absorbers which make modern Japanese buildings among the sturdiest in the world. Also deep foundations and massive shock absorbers prevent energy produced by an earthquake from tearing skyscrapers apart.
Today, Japan is the best-prepared country in the world for the twin disasters of earthquake and tsunami. Other countries vulnerable to earthquakes such as Chile, China, Italy, Mexico, Peru, and Turkey are also adopting Japan’s advanced technology to safeguard their buildings.
It is wisdom to ensure our lives are solidly built to withstand spiritual storms and tsunamis.
Just like the natural disasters that suddenly erupt in earth’s regions without warning, there are waves of troubles and temptation that often come to try men.
Those who survive and prevail are those have built their lives upon Christ the solid Rock.
As long as you have a good spiritual foundation, you can survive whatever comes to shake you. No matter the fierceness of any storm, with a strong foundation of faith, you will stand and not fall.
In the parable of Jesus in Matthew 7:24-25 , the stream, rain and wind represent the storms of life. These troubles and challenges can sometimes strike unexpectedly. At such times, a man will stand or fall based on the strength of his faith, which is a function of his depth in God’s Word.
The truth is that you are either going to pay the price to build a strong spiritual foundation or you pay the price of crumbling in the face of the storm. People who don’t have time for God, eventually end up having time for troubles. We shouldn’t be so busy pursuing the things of this world, at the risk of losing our spiritual battles.
We shouldn’t be running after high ambitions, while our spiritual foundation remains shallow. No matter, how high a man rises in life, he can easily fall, if he lacks a strong spiritual foundation.
Psalms 11:3 says ‘And if the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?
If the foundation is destroyed, the house will eventually crumble. But when we accept the responsibility of daily strengthening our spiritual foundation, then we will remain unshakable and indefatigable.
In times of sudden challenges, rather than fall, we will keep rising higher, and rather than perish, we will keep flourishing. In every situation, we will always stand strong in faith and keep giving all the glory to our God.
PRAYER; Lord Please help me to build up my faith through spending quality time in Your Word. With a strong foundation of Your Word, I know that I will always remain unshakeable no matter what comes my way in Jesus Name. . .
