Arabella Katherine Hankey, was born in London, England in 1834, into a home of a wealthy English banker. While growing up, she refused to be distracted by the riches around her and dedicated her life to serving God. As a teenager, she felt compelled to talk about Jesus and began a Bible study for girls in her neighborhood in London. She also taught and published weekly Bible lessons for girls across the city.
As an adult she became a missionary and nurse. When her brother who was serving as a missionary in South Africa fell ill, she travelled there to help him recover. She served as a nurse at the mission station, and selflessly extended herself until she fell ill and returned to London in 1866.
Her recovery at home was long and difficult, and she was bed-ridden for almost a year. During this period, she wrote a lengthy poem on the life of Christ. From this poem come two well-known hymns: “Tell Me the Old, Old Story” and “I Love To Tell the Story.”
Reading through her hymn one would never suspect the great battles Katherine fought over her health. She always sought to glorify God and bring joy to others in any way she could. Through giving God praise, her period of sickness turned around to birth hymns that has blessed the world and etched her name in history.
In times of trials, we may seem to have a good reason to become discouraged, but we have to make a quality decision to judge God faithful under every condition. The truth is that God never fails who trust in Him. No matter how things may look initially, in the end Jehovah will always have the final say. His Word will prevail.
Therefore, refuse to follow your feelings, in the face of life’s challenges. Depression will only give room to the oppression of the enemy. If you are sad, it will be bad. Rather, choose to praise God because that is what invokes His Presence for your deliverance.
Many of the challenges you face on earth may appear natural but when you look closer, there is an extension to the world of the spirit. More than a physical challenge it is a spiritual warfare. Every spiritual battle requires a spiritual approach, thus your greatest guarantee for victory in every battle is God’s presence, and praise is what it takes to get God on the scene. As you give God thanks, He will cause you to triumph always [2 Corinthians 2:14].
As the year rounds up, people usually face pressures from different quarters. A major concern for many is the financial obligations of the yuletide season. Whatever you may face, turn every pain into power by giving God worthy praise. As you do so, God will turn your pressures into pleasures and certainly cause you to triumph always!
PRAYER: Lord, may nothing stop the continual flow of Your praise from my mouth. Today, I thank You for fighting all my battles and giving me the victory always in Jesus Name,
