Oseola McCarty dropped out of school at the 6th grade to help her mother take care of their family. She later began doing laundry for families, and would do this job for the rest of her life. From her meager income, she always tried to give and save some in the bank. She was a committed Christian who read her Bible, prayed every day, went to church every Sunday. When she turned 86, her banker sat down with her to talk about what she wanted to do with her savings. She was shocked to learn she had saved a quarter of a million dollars. She decided to set aside a pension for herself, made donation to her church, and then gave $150,000 to help African Americans get the education she never got.
When word got out that she had given away most of her life savings to help poor students, her selfless action brought her worldwide attention. This uneducated woman would be honored by the United Nations, shake hands with Presidents and receive more than 300 awards. She found a new life of fame that she could never have imagined. People all over the world applauded what she did and she became a beloved celebrity before her death at 91 years.
All through the Scriptures, we read that God wants to bless us. However God’s system of blessing is set in motion when we become generous givers towards His Kingdom and to bless humanity.
Proverbs 3:9-10 (NLT) says when we honor God through our giving, He will fill our barns with grain, and our vats will overflow with good wine.’
A life of overflow is a result of a lifestyle of giving!
Oftentimes, it seems as if there are so many needs around us that we can’t afford to give. But if we continue to observe the clouds we may never sow, and if never sow then we will never reap.
No matter what little we think we have, we can still express our love to God through how much of that little we are willing to give, it is not about the volume it is about the value.
When we give cheerfully and willingly out of what we have, God will give back to us good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over. [Luke 6:38].
The truth is that we can’t out-give God. What we give comes back multiplied as blessings. God wants to bless us, increase us and supernaturally supply our needs! He wants to multiply our influence, strength, income and resources. But to live such a life of overflow, giving must become our lifestyle.
Today, let us set the blessing into motion by making the definite commitment to live to give. As we do, God will surpass our expectations and do for us above all we could ever ask, think or imagine.
PRAYER: Lord, I thank You, for releasing upon me today, the giving grace. As I begin to freely give, I thank You for opening the Heavens over me, in Jesus Name
