Eric Alexander is author of the book, The Summit: Faith Beyond Everest’s Death Zone.
Eric is a Christian Mountaineer whose faith has helped him to successfully climb most of the highest mountains in the world.
On May 25, 2001, Eric Alexander was part of a multi-record setting team of 19 climbers that ascended Mt. Everest. Their team has been called, by Time magazine, the greatest team in history to climb Everest
However prior to this record breaking climb, Eric had struggled with fear. This was mainly because, a year earlier, he had almost died when he fell while climbing Mt. Amadablam. As a result of the fall, Eric had developed pulmonary edema. For eight months he struggled with pneumonia. And though he finally recovered physically, yet fear of that fall dominated his mind.
So when he was invited to climb Everest he initially didn’t want to make the climb. But Eric decided to pray and put his faith and trust in God. And God enabled him to overcome his fears and become part of the history making- team.
You cannot reach the pinnacle of success without overcoming the fear of failure.
One of the greatest challenges anyone who desires progress must conquer is fear. The fear of failure has grounded many people and prevented them from taking the bold step to success. Most men’s defeats in life are traceable to the spirit of fear.
However anyone born of God is born to be an overcomer. God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of love and of a sound mind. As a believer you have all it takes to triumph over intimidating situations because the greater One lives in you.
In Isaiah 41:10 God says ‘Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.’
On the journey of life, failure at one time or the other is inevitable, but no matter where we may have failed, with God’s help we can always get up and reach our ordained goal in life.
Proverbs 24:16 says, ‘The righteous may fall seven times but still get up’.
Never allow yesterday’s failures to boycott your tomorrow’s success. Let go of the past and pursue after the bright future ahead of you. If there is anything you cannot handle which is a hindrance to your progress, then take it to the Lord in prayer.
Psalms 34:4 says ‘I sought the LORD, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.’
As we earnestly seek The Lord, through diligent study of His Word, surely we will be infused with the faith to overcome the world and ascend to our summits. By God’s grace, this is our time to climb out of every valley of defeat and breakthrough to our mountaintops of victory and exploits.
PRAYER: Father I thank You for inoculating my heart with the faith and strength to overcome every challenge hindering my progress and ascend to the glorious heights You have ordained for me in Jesus Name.
