John 1:12
‘for as many as received Him, to them He gave power to become sons of God
DAILY READING 1 Corinthians 8; 1 Kings 22; Amos 6
In the 20th century, there was what was called a cold war, between the United States and the Soviet Union. This essentially was rivalry between the two countries. Part of this rivalry was in the Space Race, where each country competed for dominance.
The Space Race began on August 2, 1955, when the US announced its intention to launch artificial satellites into space. Four days later The Soviet Union responded by declaring their own intention to also launch a satellite.
Privately, the two countries began to monitor each other’s progress, as they raced towards who would be the first to launch a satellite.
However, the Soviet Union beat the US to this, by launching Sputnik 1 on October 4, 1957. In response to the surprise launch of Sputnik 1, the U.S. worked hard to launch their own satellite. But before work was completed, the Soviet Union launched a second satellite, Sputnik 2, on November 3, 1957.
Perhaps this heightened America’s anxiety, and in their hurry to also launch a satellite, standards may have been compromised, resulting in the failure of the first US satellite launch on Dec 6 1957. When the rocket, carrying the satellite, rose about 4 feet off the ground, it lost thrust and fell back to the earth ending in an explosion.
However in March 17 of the following year, the US at last successfully launched the Vanguard 1 satellite into space.
The reason for the failure of the first US satellite launch, was because the rocket lost the power to go up and so, overcame by gravity, it fell back to the earth.
On the earth, the force of gravity pulls everything downward. Therefore for any object to go up, it needs great speed and a huge amount of energy to escape this pull of gravity. In science ‘escape velocity’ is the speed an object needs to break away or escape from the pull of gravity.
In his famous 1962 speech championing efforts to go to the Moon, US President John F. Kennedy compared the power of a rocket to the power generated when “10,000 cars are being driven at such extreme speed that their accelerators are pushed to the floor.’ That is indeed great power!
The same holds true spiritually; to go up, we need great power. In other words, the power pulling us up, has to be greater than the force pushing us down.
It is only by the exercise of great power that we can overcome the forces of the enemy. Psalm 66:3 says “Through the greatness of thy power shall thy enemy submit themselves unto thee.”
Indeed life is a warfare. And it is our power level that determines our level of dominion. The greater your power, the more you can dominate.
To fly high on the eagle’s flight, we need supernatural empowerment. And Supernatural empowerment answers to our study of The Word of God and an effectual prayer life.
In Acts 6:4 the disciples declared “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.” And the effect of this was that power kept on erupting, resulting in miracles, signs ad wonders!
We are in the last days which are the days of God’s power. As such, every child of God is empowered to operate in the realms of supernatural exploits. John 1:12 says ‘for as many as received Him, to them He gave power to become sons of God.’
With salvation comes a level of power, but we need to keep increasing that power, because the battles of life are getting hotter everyday. In the school of power, power is in degrees.
Though, Jesus was anointed without measure, yet He kept going to the mountain of prayer to increase His power.
We increase our power through a strong prayer life and study of The Word of God.
It is our depth in the Word that determines our level of dominion. You can’t dominate the world until you are dominated by God through His Word. Staying in the word of God will make you to be on top of the world. To fly high, we must therefore determine to pay the required price of spending time in The Word of God and maintaining a fervent prayer life.
PRAYER: Lord, Please grant me a renewed desire for Your Word and prayer, so that I can be empowered to fly to the great heights You have ordained for me this year in Jesus Name.
