Bart Millard is an acclaimed songwriter and Gospel artist. His iconic song ‘I Can Only Imagine’, made history in 2014 when it surpassed 2 million digital downloads. This made it the first song in Christian music to go platinum and double-platinum in the digital domain. The story behind the song is a testament of the amazing transformation only Christ can bring. Bart Millard’s early life was marred by tragedy and abuse. He was raised by an abusive alcoholic father whose temper made his mother to flee from their home.
Bart endured frequent beatings that left deep scars, both physically and emotionally. Sometimes, the brutal beatings left him unable to attend school for days. In the midst of his ordeal, Bart discovered a new passion for music. When Bart began attending a local church, he encountered the unconditional love of Christ. In a remarkable twist of fate, Bart’s father also found Christ while battling cancer, and they were able to forge a deep bond before his passing.
At his funeral, Bart’s grandmother said, “I can only imagine what Bub’s seeing now.” These words resonated deeply with Bart and eventually became the lyrics to the song ‘I can only imagine’, which has touched millions of lives. Witnessing the profound change in his father’s life solidified Bart’s belief in the power of the Gospel to transform even the most hardened hearts.
It’s not easy to drastically change one’s character. Anyone who has tried to transform themselves, know it’s difficult. The greatest element of transformation in the world is the Gospel. It transformed Simon, the reed, to Peter the rock. It transformed Paul the greatest persecutor of the Church to its greatest promoter. So can it transform anyone who comes to Christ.
It doesn’t matter how terrible a person’s character or the weaknesses that may plague him, an encounter with God’s Word, will bring a definite transformation. At redemption, God breathed His life into us for the purpose of our becoming more and more like Christ. God also planted seeds of greatness in us and released all we need to fulfill our God-given destiny. As a child of God, you are full of great potentials. But to experience your own destiny of greatness you have to play your part by daily renewing your mind with God’s Word.
Ephesians 4:22-24 tells us to put off the old man, renew our mind and put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Daily following Jesus will take us forward to fulfill divine purpose and make great impact on earth. It causes our light to keep shining brighter and brighter. The more we look into the Word, the more the Holy Spirit transforms our lives from glory to glory.
As you keep growing in the Word, it is only a matter of time before you break forth to glorious new heights and come into the divine heritage of amazing exploits and exceptional achievements preordained for you.
PRAYER: Lord, please help me to always fix my eyes on Your Word so that my mind can be renewed to achieve the exploits and impact You have ordained for me. I bless and praise You for the mighty things You have in store for me in this season in Jesus’ Name.
