John Alexander Dowie, was a famous U.S. evangelist and faith healer of the 20th century. On January 1, 1904, Dr. Dowie embarked on a preaching tour to Los Angeles. There, he was informed of a severe drought that had come to Southern California, and no rain had fallen for eighth months in the land. For a week the newspapers kept challenging Dr. Dowie to pray for rain. The reporters pointed out that if he was truly a man of God he should pray as Elijah of old prayed for rain after three and a half years of drought and his prayer was answered. One Sunday afternoon while Dowie was holding a service, the weather was particularly hot as California’s sun blazed down upon the scorched, dusty and dry land.
As he was ending his preaching, he dropped on his knees behind the pulpit and began to call upon God to send rain over the distressed land.
As he finished his prayer, a little while later the sky began to grow dark with rain clouds. People looked at one another with wonder and awe. At that point Dr. Dowie led the people in a prayer of consecration to close the service, then he pronounced the benediction, and said, ‘Get to your homes quickly, for there is sound of abundance of rain.’ But he was too late, just as the multitude turned to go, rain began to fall in torrents.
This incidence was widely reported, as a testimony of God’s miracle working power.
It is obvious today that the world is going through a time of instability. Especially last year, there was a widespread global economic drought that affected individuals and nations. But despite the spells of dry season last year, as a child of God, this year, rain is headed your way. This is your year to bloom, to blossom and to flourish.
It’s your year to break forth and break through into higher realms of opportunities. Though weeping may have endured for a night, your joy is coming ..” (Psalm 30:5, KJV).
As we step into this New Year, let us remember God’s Word in Deuteronomy 11:10-12 which says ‘The land you are entering to take over is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you planted your seed and irrigated it by foot as in a vegetable garden. But the land you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven. It is a land the Lord your God cares for; the eyes of the Lord your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end.’
Egypt was the place of stress, sorrow, and struggle. But Canaan was the place of success, abundance, divine supplies, miracles and breakthroughs.
In other words, this New year we are coming into doesn’t have to be like last year we have just left behind.
Therefore let us not remember the former things, rather let us press forward in the high calling of God that awaits us this year. It is indeed time to break forth into new levels and move into the great and mighty plans God has for our lives.
Therefore let us step out in faith into this year believing God for divine elevations. It is certainly a wonderful new beginning for us. .
PRAYER: Father, I am grateful that You enabled me to see this brand New Year. Thank You Lord! Please grant me the grace to seek You diligently this year so as to experience a full manifestation of Your glory and the great things You have in store for me in Jesus’ Name.
