Colossians 3:1-3 ‘Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. ‘

“Revelation Song” is a song written by Jennie Lee Riddle with lyrics adapted from the book of Revelation.
In 2010, the song won a Dove Award for Worship Song of the Year at the 41st GMA Dove Awards. It was also nominated for Song of the Year.
Interestingly, this extraordinary song came to Jennie Lee Riddle in the midst of her ordinary day’s routines, when she decided to set her mind on things above.
On that day, in 1999, Jennie was at home singing a lullaby to her little son. In the process, she began praying to the Lord that she wanted to catch a glimpse of Heaven, to see and hear all creation worshiping Him. She said of that time “My heart longed to focus on something far greater than my needs.’
She asked the Holy Spirit to help her write a song that reflected God’s Glory. She then put her baby down to play with his toys, picked up her guitar and began to play what was resonating in her heart.
With her mind focused on Revelation 5, where John describes his vision of the Heavenly throne room, she came up with the lines “Clothed in rainbows of living color, flashes of lightning, rolls of thunder.”
As she tried to capture the overwhelming sense of wonder and adoration as described by John, the result was “Revelation Song.
When this song was first released by Kari Jobe in 2009, it became an instant hit. Since then ‘Revelation song’ has been recorded by many other Christian artists and is a greatly loved worship song across the world.

While living in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the world, it can sometimes seem difficult to maintain a Heavenly perspective.
As we go about our daily routines, there are many happenings which can easily affect our mind and emotions, and keep us struggling with problems rather than focusing on God’s glory. But as believers we must refuse to be entangled with the yoke of bondage, of living shallow, earth-bound lives. We must choose to rise above and focus our thoughts and heart on things above.

Colossians 3:1-3 says ‘Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”

The Greek word used for “set” in this verse, means “to seek after, strive for, be intent on.”
Setting our minds is similar to setting a thermostat; it determines the climate we live in.
It can be tempting to keep on our minds on the news or social media and worry about the worsening conditions in the world, but we must always deliberately set our minds on Christ.
We must remember that Jesus says in John 16:33, that while there will be troubles and tribulations in the world, in Him we will have peace, because He has overcome the world
Again Paul writes in Philippians 4:6 “Be anxious for nothing”
We must recognize that no matter what goes on in the world God is in perfect control, therefore rather than worry, we learn to worship, trusting that He is working all things together for our good.
In the midst of earthly distractions, we grow in Heavenly mindedness by intently setting our mind on God’s Word!
Through listening, reading and studying the Scriptures and related materials, we will constantly keep our thoughts on God. And according to Isaiah 26:3, God has promised to keep us in perfect peace, when our minds are stayed upon Him, because we trust in Him.

PRAYER: Lord, please grant me renewed appetite for Your Word so that I can always keep my mind on You and maintain a Heavenly perspective. By Your grace I will never be distracted as I run life’s race in Jesus Name.
