2 Corinthians 6:17 ‘Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.’

DAILY READING; Hebrews 8; Exodus 5:1-6:27; Proverbs 1

One of the most notable things about America’s 16th president, Abraham Lincoln was that he never drank alcohol or smoked throughout his lifetime.
He had been born into a strict Baptist family, belonging to a congregation that forbade alcohol, tobacco, and even dancing. As a young man Lincoln made the decision to drink nothing but water.
Interestingly, he grew up during the early 1800s, when American experienced the greatest explosion of alcohol consumption in its history.
There was general acceptance that alcoholic liquors were life’s necessity. In everyday affairs they were a part of hospitality and supposed good cheer; in sickness they were regarded as sovereign remedies.
It was a period that drunkenness became the order of the day among the American populace. However, although Lincoln was born and grew to manhood in this environment, he was a lifelong total abstainer. By practicing total abstinence, Lincoln’ seemed to swim against the tide. But he was aware of the often terrible consequences of alcoholism.
In the 1830’s, Lincoln had owned a store with a business partner who liked to drink. This partner eventually spent most of the profits made by the store on alcohol. As a result the store eventually went out of business.
Having witnessed such dire consequences of alcoholism, Abraham Lincoln chose to stay away from it. He even wrote an essay on the evils of drink which was so impressive that a copy of it was printed in the newspapers.
Lincoln was known for his self-discipline, which became one of the outstanding characteristics that helped him to eventually become America’s 16th president.

As you attempt to live a godly life, there’s a constant pressure from the society to squeeze you into its mold and conform you to its standard. However, as believers, God wants us to stand out and live differently from the rest of the world.

2 Corinthians 6:17 ‘Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.’

Today, we live in a drunken world where the moral standards are swiftly being lowered. It is a world that celebrates sin and makes righteous-living appear obsolete and outdated.
While it may seem easier to fit in and do what everyone else is doing, we must always remember we’re have been redeemed to stand out as light of the world and salt of the earth..
People around you may be comfortable living undisciplined lives. They may be living immorally or dishonest in financial dealings. But as a child of God, that’s not you. You’re a person of excellence.
However, the decision to be separate from the world and live in obedience to God’s Word requires more than just mental assent. It takes courage to live differently.
This is why we need to constantly fill our minds with God’s Word, so as to be strengthened in our inner man to say ‘No’ to temptations.

Psalm 119:11 says ‘Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.’
Indeed the more we hide God’s Word in our heart, the more our minds will be renewed, and we are transformed to live exceptional and uncommon lives, different from the world around us.
As sons of God living in the midst of such a crooked and perverse generation, we must wear our godly identity boldly and determine that nothing will ever cause us to lower our standards.
No matter the pressure, keep living for Christ, stay spiritually hot and never settle for less than God’s best for you.

PRAYER:
Lord, please help me not to conform to the world, but rather through Your Word, let my life be transformed so that I can live an excellent and exceptional life and stand out in my generation in Jesus Name. .
