Isaac Backus was a former farm-boy who became famous during the days of American independence due to his tenacious fight for religious liberty for Christians.
Isaac Backus grew up in his family’s farm during the period of the Great Awakening in America in 1741. Affected by that great move of the Spirit sweeping through the nation and the spiritual fervency of people around him, at age 17, he surrendered his life to Christ.
Soon young Isaac received the call to ministry and began training to become a preacher. In 1746 he preached his first sermon and he progressed so rapidly in ministry that two years later, in 1748 he became pastor of the First Baptist Church of Middleboro, Massachusetts.
At that time, members of the Baptists Church were subject to great persecution by the government of Massachusetts. The Baptist churches were forced to pay taxes which were then used to support government-controlled churches, whose doctrines were contrary to that of the Baptists. When the Baptist churches refused to pay these taxes, their houses, land and possessions were confiscated. They were even put in prison for refusing to support a state religion they did not believe in!
In 1774 Isaac was asked by the Baptists to represent them in this matter, in a legal battle with the state.
For 10 years Isaac Backus labored for religious liberty and played a key role toward securing independence from England and religious liberty for Christians. He wrote tracts, petitions and letters. As a result of this fight, years later full religious liberty was finally granted. Many Christians in America today, owe their religious liberty to the tireless efforts of this great man of God, Isaac Backus.

Every anointed man and woman of God will be tasked with the mission of bringing liberty to those in bondage.
An outstanding work of the Holy Spirit is to bring liberty, wherever He comes.
2 Corinthians 3:17 says ‘where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.’
Freedom, redemption, liberty are constant expressions of the Spirit. He is on a mission to remove yokes, burdens and bring deliverance to those who are heavy-laden with troubles and problems.
After the Holy Spirit came upon Jesus, He proclaimed in Luke 4:18 ‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.’
Jesus was anointed without measure so that He could bring deliverance without limit to world. Even today He is still setting the captives free.
Deliverance and redemption for the oppressed is what Jesus shed His Blood to purchase.
Through the Blood of Jesus we are guaranteed freedom from every form of spiritual enslavement, suffering, shame and reproach.
Zechariah 9:11 says, ‘As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water.’
By the Blood of Jesus we have been brought out of every pit of diseases, infirmity, poverty, sin, etc..
Jesus’ willingness and desire to bring deliverance from these demonic bondages was reflected in Luke 13:16 when He said: ‘And ought not this woman…whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond?’
By His blood, ‘Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us, that the blessing of Abraham might come upon us’ (Galatians 3:14).
Let us therefore stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. We must refuse, reject and repel every attempt of the enemy to keep us bound in sickness, poverty, oppression, problems etc.
As long as we stand strong in faith and keep giving glory to God, surely, our freedom is guaranteed by the Blood of Jesus.

PRAYER;
Lord, I thank You for purchasing my freedom through Your precious Blood. Thank You Lord for the grace to diligently study Your Word so that I can walk every day in the full consciousness of the victory You won for me at Calvary in Jesus’ Name.
