Ephesians 2:4 – 6 ‘But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) and hath raised us up together’
DAILY READING – • 2 Corinthians 11; 2 Kings 25; Habakkuk 2
The Christian faith stands or falls on the event of the resurrection. Encounters with the resurrected Christ was what convinced, convicted and converted many in the early Church.
After His death, Christ’s disciples had gone into hiding, out of fear.
But a radical transformation occurred when they saw the resurrected Christ. Seeing Him walk through the closed door into their hiding place and show them His pierced hands, revolutionized those disciples and birthed in them indestructible faith to go forth and spread the Gospel despite the intense persecutions.
One of their most vicious persecutors, Saul of Tarsus, was also transformed when he encountered the resurrected Christ on the road to Damascus.
Thereafter, Paul became instrumental in spreading the Gospel throughout the Roman Empire and wrote a third of the New Testament.
Divine encounters with the power of Christ also converted prominent gentiles like the pagan emperor Constantine. After a powerful vision, he became a convert to Christianity and made Christianity a legal religion throughout the Roman Empire. The Gospel would further spread to become the dominant religion in Europe. During the age of explorations, expeditions across the world led to conversion of many indigenous people to Christianity.
The power of Christ’s resurrection, has been the most convincing and compelling reason for the spread of Christianity across the world.
For nearly two thousand years Christians around the world have continued to proclaim the testimony of His resurrection every Easter Sunday with the joyful declaration– ‘Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!
Truly, we have every reason to celebrate today!
Christ has risen from the grave! Death has been defeated. The debt of sin has been paid for and, our sins have been forgiven. Now we have new life and renewed hope.
That is exciting news!
More than an event, the resurrection of Jesus Christ represents for us a change of position.
Just as the power of His resurrection radically transformed His disciples into world changers, we have been redeemed to make global impacts.
Jesus’ disciples became a wonder to their world when they defied all obstacles, even death itself to spread the Gospel with power.
They lived such extraordinary lives, that at Lystra, it was said of them ‘The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.’
Likewise, through the power of the Resurrection we are meant to become living wonders.
Because the same Spirit that raised Christ from the death dwells in us, we cannot be found on the floor, we cannot be found in defeat, obscurity and mediocrity. We are destined to always be above and never beneath.
Indeed as Christ has risen, so shall we keep rising from glory to glory and from victory to victory…
PRAYER: Father, I thank You for transforming my life through the power of Christ’s resurrection. Today, may every form of deadness and stagnancy around me come to an end as I arise to greater heights of exploits and victory in Jesus Name.
