Habakkuk 3:17-19 ‘Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.’

By the early 1800s, cotton emerged as Southern America’s major cash crop and its leading export. It was referred to as ‘king cotton’ because of its economic and political importance.
However all that changed when calamity struck and most cotton plantation were wiped out by the boll weevil, a beetle ruinous for the cotton plant. The economic fallout was disastrous.
One of the places greatly affected was the town of Enterprise in Alabama. After the destruction of their main crop, Christians in the town of Enterprise met together and prayed, “We thank You, Lord, that you have blessed us for so many years with cotton. Now it’s gone, but we know You work all things together for good. So we trust You.”
Following their prayer meeting, the town of Enterprise decided to begin growing peanuts in the place of cotton, even though peanuts was a virtually unknown crop and there was no big market for it.
At that time, existed a black American agricultural scientist and inventor named George Washington Carver. He was a man of great faith and known to be one of America’s greatest thinkers.
One day while praying, George Washington Carver said God brought to his mind Genesis 1:29, and reminded him that He’d given mankind plants for their uses. Carver then asked God to show him uses for the peanut and as he went to his laboratory and began experimenting God showed him over three hundred products from the peanut!
As his discoveries of many uses of the peanut became known, suddenly there arose an unexpected, unprecedented demand for peanuts. Farmers in the town of Enterprise, Alabama made more money in a few months off peanuts than they normally made the whole year off cotton crops. Soon Alabama became the largest producer of peanuts in the country. What had been a disaster suddenly turned into a great blessing. What had been adversity became prosperity – all because instead of being bitter, the people of Enterprise, Alabama chose to glorify God in the midst of negative circumstances.
A heart of gratitude is our fastest escape out of every calamity. “’Gratitude’ comes from the same word as ‘freedom’, its root word is the Latin word ‘gratis’, which means ‘free’.
Therefore anytime a door closes against you, gratitude is your key to freedom. The choice to praise God in the midst of adversity will open new and greater doors for you.
Life is essentially a seedtime and harvest adventure and no one ever gets out of life more than he puts into it. When you sow the seed of praising God, you will reap a harvest of His miraculous interventions. .
Gratitude is a spiritual force that turns the tables in our favor. A grateful attitude will cause you to soar where you were meant to sink. When in adverse situations, we keep our praise up, then everything will eventually go up for us.
The positioning of the ‘nose’ of an aircraft is called its attitude. When it points down, the aircraft usually plunges downwards. But when it points upwards, then it usually rises.
When we maintain an attitude of gratitude and praise, we will be raised from every pit of life.
If you don’t understand this principle, you’ll often get discouraged by negative circumstances that pop up on your path. Oppositions are opportunities for miracles and a setback could be a set-up for greater open doors.
When we understand that God is in control, in every situation we keep giving Him thanks, trusting that He is working all things together for our good.
Everyone faces difficulties and obstacles at certain points, but the difference between winners and losers is their attitude.
As we remain grateful and praise-full, God will cause us to triumph over trials and cause the earth to yield her increase to us.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to be always full of gratitude, in spite of contrary situations. I know indeed that as I remain grateful and continue to praise You surely You shall fight my battles and open the door to greater blessings and opportunities for me in Jesus’ Name.
