Proverbs 18:21 ‘Death and life are in the power of the tongue have, And those who love it will eat its fruit.’
DAILY READING – Mark 14:32-72; 1 Kings 9; Hosea 11:1-11
Jonathan Edwards was one of America’s most famous early ministers, He is mostly known for his classic sermon, “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,”.
This sermon was so convicting that lost souls sitting under his preaching would scream and fall to the floor in anguish. Some would begin yelling that they could feel the flames of hell scorching their feet.
While Jonathan Edwards was a fiery preacher, he was also a very loving, compassionate man who enjoyed spending quality personal time with his family. Edwards got married in 1727 and had eleven children. When at home, Edwards had a special chair that in the evenings, he would sit in and gather his children around him to spend quality time with them. Each day, Edwards would pray a blessing over each child.
Years later in 1900, a researcher named A. E. Winship tracked 1,400 decedents of Edwards. In his published study, Winship revealed that among his descendants were 300 ministers, 13 noted authors, 13 college presidents, 65 college professors, 100 lawyers and a dean of a law school, 30 judges, 56 physicians and a dean of a medical school, 80 holders of public office, 3 United States Senators, 1 Vice President of the United States and 1 comptroller of the United States Treasury.
As a result of the positive words Jonathan Edwards spoke over his children, the blessings continued to manifest through their generation.
Proverbs 18:21 says “life and death are in the power of the tongue.”
Words are powerful. Our words are like seeds, and they will produce fruit. The words being planted today, will bring a harvest in the future.
The truth is that the words of our mouth control our lives, whether we like it or not. As a rudder controls the direction of a ship, our tongues controls the direction of our lives. Therefore to continually experience greater open doors, we must discipline our lips to speak only words of faith and blessings.
What we say is what we will eventually see.
The world we see today was created by words unseen. In the story of creation in the book of Genesis, each time God spoke, something supernatural happened. Through His words the light conquered the darkness, the earth was formed and creation came alive.
Within six days, the world was framed by the creative power of God’s Word.
Because we are created in the image of God, there is also power in our mouths. We can recreate our world by the words we speak. We can open doors of blessings by speaking consistently in line with God’s Word.
As we speak, miracles will happen, our enemies will be defeated, the lines will fall for us in pleasant places, walls of impossibilities will be flattened and we will live triumphant and victorious,
We must recognize that we are our own prophets and can determine what happens around us by our utterances.
Everything we have in our lives today is a direct result of what we have been saying and believing.
Proverbs 6 says, “We are snared by the words of our mouth”. Snared means to be trapped. Negative thoughts come to us all, but if you speak them out, you give them life. This is why we speak only what God has said concerning us.
Therefore, no matter what is going on in the world we need to keep speaking words of faith, power and blessings. What we say is what we will eventually see. To speak right words, let us continually meditate on God’s Word. The Word of God is the seed that bears good fruits in our lives. As we keep speaking God’s words, our lives and the lives of our loved ones will yield harvests of miracles, signs and wonders.
PRAYER: Lord, please help me to speak right words always. Let my mouth be a fountain of life that brings blessings and deliverance to me and my household in this season in Jesus Name.
